2003 4.2 Tdi problems
2003 4.2 Tdi problems
Been having a few prob's with a new '03 4.2 Tdi running on and oil light illuminated for way too long. Warranty notice replaced the wiring harness which seems to have stopped the run on if the a/c isn't on. Have read with interest comments re genuine and non oil filters to fix oil light prob. Blue nissan filters on and still runs on at least 3 - 5 sec's..is this normal? Apologies if already posted before, I did have a look, finding my way as a 'newboy'. Thanks, Chris.

i wouldnt worry too much, i have read about the oil filters, but not too sure on what your problem could be, but someone will be able to help you out,
just a though, there is a soleniod i believe, which cuts your fuel off and kills the motor, maybe there is a small issue with that,
not sure, but, just a thought i had,
Around 2 or 3 seconds, sounds like its switching off uncontrolled, with no timming, its rough and shakes a bit until she stops. You'll laugh at the dealers first reply, "Well mate they're a big engine and hard to pull up'. Had prob's with idle speed when new, was idelling about 1000 rpm, they couldn't slow it up much, this is when the engine run on was real bad. Its 36k old now and idles nice at about 750 -800rpm (had new harness fitted)only runs on if the rev's are up when the a/c is accidently left on. My uneducated guess is that she was still getting fuel after ignition switched off. I've tried 2 dealers now and both have no idea.
my GQ diesel used to have a slight run on for the 3 or 4 seconds, with a really rough idle during that time, i took it in to a Diesel Specialist, for an Injector clean/replacement and a pump overhaul, they adjusted the timing, and it hasnt done it since, so id definatly take it back to Nissan, and tell them to start evry 4.2TDi and make it do the same thing,
Also get in touch with Nissan head office and tell em your not happy with the service you are recieving, even talk to the Head guy at the dealers you are using, fire up, get loud,

Ive had mine for about 15 months now and it has run on just a couple of times.
Definately insist they fix it up if it happens all of the time.
You dont pay close to 60 grand to have it behave like that...

Sorry can't help with your problems, but I have a question.
You said it is a 4.2 Tdi. I thought the 4.2 donk was indirect injection. Have Nissan now bought out a new direct injection 4.2 litre motor?
