so i picked up a new ome steering damper for the lux this morning...
first thing i notice is the ome one is about 3 times the diameter of the factory yota one.
second thing i notice is i dont have a ball joint puller.... bit of swearing and bfh action and i got the factory one off.....
here's where it gets weird.
the factory one had a ball joint on one end of it with a rubber boot over it.... the ome doesnt seem to be a ball joint (maybe its just really stiff?) and there's no rubber boot or anything to rest between the steering arm and the damper?
the factory one had a castle nut with a split pin through it - the ome one doesnt but it does have one of those nylon lock nut things.
problem is... ive done up the ball joint end as tight as i can (the bottom of the pin is now spinning) but there's still about a 1/4 inch gap between the steering arm and the damper.
took it for a test drive around the block and it all seems to be ok... but that gap concerns me.
was i supposed to take the rubber boot off the factory damper and re-use it on the ome one? am i missing some bits from the ome damper box? am i a lemmah?
any advice appreciated.

this morning i put some vicegrips on the bottom of the pin to stop it spinning...
cranked the absolute buggery out of the nyloc nut and hey presto...
closed the gap to less than 1mm.
in hindsight... i probably should have scraped all the bright yellow paint off the shaft off the joint before fitting it.... maybe then it wouldnt have been so damn hard
