I am having troubles with my 96 V8 Disco. A few times now it turns over but won't fire up. Was running on empty coming into Licola after a week in the High country the first time it happened, so thought i had a blockage in the fuel filter. Changed that and am running an injector cleaner through it but had the same trouble again the other day. Normally when i turn the key to ignition i can hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds before a relay switches it off. But when this happened the other day i didn't hear the pump going.
Also thought it might have been an immobiliser issue so i tried locking and unlocking a couple of times to see if that helped. No luck.
Anyone know what else i need to check?

I had this problem once, ended up being the fuel pump just ran out of life, it would cut out even when driving after you stopped for a minute you could start it again and be on your way
Just to add something to this as I was there at the time.
The engine just starts to turn over and then slowly fades, I'd say it sounds like it's just running at literally about 50rpms and then fades to dead. 4 - 5 - 6 times nothing, then suddenly VROOM, straight to life.
Anyway, checking the pump sounds like it could be right on the money.
Peter, I checked the wires at the pump and i think you might have been right. The connection seemed a bit sloppy and one of the wires looked like it had been jammed in between the floor and tank or something as the casing was squashed and looked like it may have broken the outer insulation. Fixed it up and insulated the wires better. Also put a cable tie around the connector to make sure it won't come loose. Hopefully its sorted.

Glad to hear you have it sorted sometimes the fracture is internal and requires resoldering etc. The fault is often intermittent when this is the case and a very difficult fix out in the bush unless you carry a soldering iron or some heat source. How did it get jammed between the tank and floor? are your body mount rubbers ok? They do collapse over time I replaced mine a couple of years ago on my 90 RR and they were so squashed the body was rubbing on all the hoses and lines that run on top of the chassis.
