could be wrong here but if there is no butterfly in the air stream through the motor then the blow off valve has nothing to do as the pressure doesn't build up like a petrol one does when the butterfly closes.

There are only a couple of turbo diesel GQ's on the road.....
most are happy with the std 85kw at the flywheel........

There are shitloads, many running like 12, 14, 16, 20 psi boost depending on the motor's age, kilometres, maintenance etc.
A mate of mine has a 91 running the safari turbo and a custom intercooler, dyno tuned at 16psi putting out about 130 hp at wheels with 4.3 diffs and 285/75R16 tyres on the dyno (the 35" claws dont do very well on the dyno) Torque is astronomical also..... fuel consumption similar to my 4.5 Petrol GU 4.5 km / L !!!!!
Also has a boost controller set for 10 psi or 16 psi to try and reduce fuel usage onroad.
Some say the Denco turbo kits use a more modern and better turbo, I don't know if this is true. I would suggest you get a custom intercooler built over paying Safari's ripoff price, it should be cheaper according to Andrew W who posts on a few lists as awill4x4.
Check out DTS and Denco turbo kits and intercooler pricing.... Just remember, power requires more fuel, more air, more money!!!

Just wondering about the BOV's. Even though there is no butterfly valve,
when you get off the throttle from it being on the floor you must still get
a build up of backpressure (caused by turbo boost pressure) in the manifold, which in turn causes the turbo to slow down creating turbo lag when you get back on the throttle. Surely a BOV must help to some extent.

Boost gauge should only show positive press. when turbo is spinning fast enough to provide positive press. When idling the gauge should be in the negative, as the engine induction is creating a vacuum in the manifold and the turbo, although is spinning, is not working hard enough to providing enough boost.
