parabolics on hilux

Post by benhl »

Thinking of doing F & R para's on the lux (22r styleside SC). Will have extended shackles F & R, A frame shock set up in rear with Rancho 9000's. Currently got some stiff arse mining pack springs with about 3-4" of lift. Shakes your kidney's out on the road!

What are your thoughts? Will it improve flex? Will the height remain about the same? What will the ride be like?

Get some 2" springs, extended shackles, x-over steering and longer shocks,

then u will get;

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... php?id=202

The ride in mine is fine. Played with the shocks a little and got it pretty much right now, on and off road.

Not many people have parabolics, and just about everyone i know has his/her hilux set up like this or extreemly similar. So we all know it works.

Nope, their 2" normal but flexxy leafs from choas4x4, Its a diesel. No winch. so about average weight on the front.

Gribble/ 83 lux comments above will improve flex dramatically, but takes a bit of work and money.

Parabolics will give nice ride if under the weight of diesel, or at least petrol with winch. Won't sag. Give 3" lift but more if under petrol. Get front only if u go this way tho- rears aren't very good at all apparently.

So if u don't want to go all out with others suggestions, parabolics are good for bolt in setup.

I got a pair with little use if u are interested.

thanks for the info so far - keep it coming.

So i guess para's are a no go. Fork out the extra for "flexy" springs.

any ideas on them in Brisbane area? looking for a cheap but workable solution. Dont want to save money and get no flex, prefer to fork out the extra $$$ to make it work.

thanks elite force - will keep in mind however if going to leaf will prolly run 4"lift, trying to get 35's in soon.

Would say 2"lift rears in the front give close to 4" actuall lift due to the curvature of the spring? is it about 2" more than the spring if runnign rears in the front? Does that make sense?

I'm after some advice.......... when you put rear springs in the front of a lux. How much lift do they gain due to the curvature of the spring. is it about 2"?

ie, if you put a std rear in the front would the gaurd height increase by about 2"? likewise if you put a 2"lifted rear spring in the front would the ride height increase by about 4"?

Pls guide me if im wrong, i'm trying to work out suspension set ups in an ever conflicting world of suspension experts and people who know nothing about what they are trying to sell.

thanks in advance for some much needed advice

Do this

Front

2" Dropped hanger, forward if you wish, mine is 1" forward

Use rear springs in the front, I use a 5 leaf setup which is exactly the same to scotts as I told him which springs to use, the top 3 are from a standard rear pack with the bottom 2 being from a front. This will give a nice flatish spring about 2 inch of arch.

Use 2" extended shackles up front

Get some shock towers - eg superior engineering

And get some 32" travel shocks procomp 10032's are good

Go cross over steering

Rear

Get some standard IFS rears and bolt them in using a 200mm centre to centre rear shackle

Get a U Bolt flip

Get some long shocks eg procomp 10032's or 10036's and make the mounts to suit

Im thinking TRACK bar. Like the thing on your front diff standard, but for the rear. Stops the diff rotating during braking/acceleration.
