which leaf out of OME spring pack

I have some new OME med springs to go on my sierra and I'd like to take out an overrider(?) leaf out of the rear pack( 3+2) to make the ride as soft as possible. I've done a few searches on this and other forums but I haven't found info on which one to take out - the short one at the bottom, the longer one above it, or both? Any help would be great . The new springs were $699 for the four. I got them from Top gear 4WD (very helpful so far) here in Alice Springs.

It also depends on whether yuo think they will wrap or not (or if you are carrying a fair load)

e.g.

I ran HD rears all round with 3 in the rear pack on 34X10. swampers with a welded rear and ss'd up the springs with axle wrap.

Greg runs Med rears all round with 3 in the rear pack on 34X9.5 swampers and a rear air lockler and doesn't have the wrapping issues i did.

I have two sets of the medium OME springs. I would recommend keeping the two load leaves in because they become too soft if you take them out. Just undo the retainer bolt on the load leave to help with droop.

PM< if your interested in buying some second hand ones, they are only 6 months old. I paid $198 each..

Wheel size
Soft top or hard top
Shocks used

This will all come into play

e.g.

DeWsE had a tin top (Plus lr tank for memory), more weight, using softer springs and softer shocks than I did with a soft top, hence why he found the setup different.

I never have much in the back, but I drive entirely on corrugations or bush tracks (I live 300 k's NWest of Alice). Not sure if makes a difference, but don't have much in the way of other mods either - std gearing, 30 in BFG A/Ts, lining up a 1.6 carby vitara for transplant. Was planning to make up extended (35mm) shackles too for extra softness. With the added 20 mm of lift I heard these give, what shocks would give a good ride? Thanks for previous advice Big Steve.

I ran cheapy monroe sigma shocks, they were really soft softer than n76 OME's which i ran in the front and DeWsE ran all round.

Soft top or tin top?

Okay no thanks for my advice!

Don't expect the lift to stay their to long, because they tend to sag a little. But they give a beautiful sof ride (compared to standard). I would go ome shocks

Sorry for hijack again, are they sigma front or rear shocks ??

Just saw the post asking for more info. It's a 93 soft top, std tank, no rear seats etc. Always has about 30 - 50 kgs of hand winch, cable and tools etc behind front seats, plus a steel roll bar ( when I find/make one) to come. Often has another 60 kgs of dogs or same weight in dead wildlife.

Ok I'd definately have a load leaf in.

I only ever carried a small 5l jerry can and basic recovery gear. Mine weighed under a tonne dry.

Another question - milking this thread for all its worth - the front spring packs are different (from memory driver's side is stiffer, has a fraction less apparent lift and a different spring pack clip arrangement to the both the rears and the front passenger side). The clip is formed tight around the edges, top and bottom of the pack -should I loosen it?
