How long should I expect my shocks to last?
I upgraded to the 4way toughdog Adjustables (bigbores) 10months ago and now the rear left leaks oil ALL the time. Also the lower rubber is all but worn through. Strange that it's just the one unit.

but you shouldnt have to use warranty on these things all the time.. They shouldnt fail, you shouldnt 'hear similar problems'..... Ranchos are the same..

no probs with mine but I only had about 10,000km on them when I flipped. got to keep the grease up to the poly end bushings or they flog out pretty quickly. is the integral bumpstop in the shock still good or has it been smashed? if you have the 6" shocks in a 5" lift or lower (or if it has sagged) they can bottom pretty hard even on fairly mild articulation. Any shock will break if you exceed its capacity for compression or extension, and being a twin-tube, foam cell shocker it is prone to overheating and seal failure, as is any other, if overheated by heavily laden/high speed driving on rough surfaces like corrugations.
as the others have said, they will warranty it without question, but that doesn't really solve your problem.

nothing to lose by trying to get the pair replaced, but I doubt they'll go for it - if the other one is good then it shouldn't be noticably different to a new one.

driving to the shops every week and down to coast on holidays once a year. the hubs get locked in to back the boat down the ramp.

Well 2,500Kms in two weeks of fully packed offroading in TAS is a pretty good test for the TD's, but why one side and not the other, especially in regards to the rubber bushy thingy wearing out.
So what's the alternative if you want an adjustable shock?

The Sales dude, said this is wear and tear, and happens, I dont agree, why are all the others still in perfect condition then?
Bottom line is I have to drop the truck in for them to pull the unit and send it off to be assesed, all the while I'm without my ride in the peak season! Did I mention that this really sucks!

Tell them you require a courtesy car while they do that.. That place that sells ranchos in castle hill, told difflock dan he could buy a new set of shocks while they sent the old ones away for testing... then if the old ones were fubar, he would have a spare set

that's crap. if it's leaking, and within the warranty period, they should swap it without question. when it gets back to TD,, they won't even look at it, just chuck it in the warranty box and ship it back to the manufacturer.

Koni maybe but we took 8 vehicles across the simpson and the only vehicles that didn't have any suspension problems were fitter with either Koni or Bilsteins.every vehicle that had OMEs fitted had at least 2 shocks fail and one had all 4 fail that required a backtrack to get the new shocks that had to be air freighted out.By the way Rancho is an internal subsidiary of Monroe that make OME shocks.So the rubbish is just piled out the same factory door under another name.

I have Konis and have not had a problem. Also used them on my race car. Even so, I cant believe that they dont have a lot of good competition. A shock absorber is a pretty simple device - surely the dedicated offroad shock makers like tough dog, ome, etc, should cream Konis.
I have been wandering if choosing Konis was a good step with all the purpose-built offroad shocks on the market.
Really, is it the shocks or the vehicle suspension design thats the problem?
I would want to be sure that on a long trip the shockies would out last other components.
