Rotary powered, rear engine buggy build up.

here's the next dilema.
with the engine / gearbox and transfer case coming from the back, when it's in 2wd mode it will only drive the front wheels, good for skid steering but that's not how i want to set it up.
I'm wondering if a toyota transfer can be run in reverse, or is this very bad, strength wise, for the transfer.
Twin stick setup somehow????? Just to run the front gears (now going to the rear diff) May be very noisy in 2wd.
Maybe this is whey they all run Atlas transfer cases.

A lot of them run rear mounted engines. Not sure how they are set up.
Paul.
yes but most if not all of them are only 2wd.
this one's cool!

engine i have in mind is really light and with the fuel tank and other ballast at the front, the weight distribution will work out close to 50 / 50 front and rear.
don't forget, we do drive down hills and off ledges etc too.

maybe get a rear drive shaft disconnect from trail tought?
and run in 4wd with it disconnect to just run the rears
even with a twin stick setup i didnt think u could get fwd only in a lux tcase?
sounds like u have alot of reading to doo
who would be building it if u did go ahead with it?

what is a smallish, strong transfer case that can be mounted independently of a gearbox (similar to a suzuki setup).

y not zuk?
zook one would be good especially when you can do shyte like this to em.
I question their strength but i guess i shouldn't Krawla and Bone run them behind the 4AGZE's and Rod gives his absolute hell, like selecting drive when reving at 4-5000 rpm. The only thing they seem to break is the stoopid mounts.
did the aztec still run the zook transfers when he was running the 38's? and is Sam Keck's camo zook still running that transfer?
With this setup i could have the 3rd stick as a front disconnect. This would probably work well.

Dude Sam run it on Aztec with 42’s!
Gonads runs it with 46’s and a splitter box to put more torque on it.
But in saying that Tim killed a gear with 33 and standard motor

yes aztec ran zook transfer with 37mtrs and short stint with 42tsl's
gonads runs a zook tcase with 46"
sam still runs zuk case with 33's
i run one with 33's
if you get good quality gears u prolly wont have a problem
although there have been a few reports of Splitting the case
but u can always go a SAMBOX II
you can do what u just posted to a toy case too
all it is is a twin stick with rear DS disconnect u dont even really need the twin stick but i will be gtting one (all it does is give u the option of 2wd low)
u can get this though by just removing a ball from the case (this is what i have now) but 2 sticks = bling
u shouldnt be using zuk mounts if u are building a buggy anyways there are alot better ways to mount things then the factory zuk way

the little zuk box will handle a heap of power, my old buggy runs a tidy holden 202 with a 4000rpm stall trimatic then vitara reduction box 1.82:1 to a sierra t/case. and i give it shit! with 38" swampers. it will smoke the 38's on command and never hurt the box's (yet, but not from lack of trying).

i'm gonna have to start venturing into the zook forum
which toy box can i do it with??? a hilux box will set me back bout $150
what are zook t/cases worth?
do i go a sierra one or a vitara one?
are they the same setup, with the short shaft between the gearbox and transfer, cause this is how i'd do it. (can i put a yoke onto the front of a hilux case and just plate the front in to make it a similar setup to a zook?)
What are the strongest gears available for these cases? is it Calmini, Petroworks, Spidertrax or Ausmade ones???

i'll have the case mounted as normal, it'd just be (cause of the rear engine) that the normally front output, will be going to the rear diff and vice versa. I'll put the rear disconnect on it (when the case is turned around, this will give me rear drive only, then for front drive only all i have to do is put it in 2wd mode)
It takes a little to get yopur head around but it'll work.
i'd draw a pic to demonstrate this but i couldn't be bothered.
Rudezuk on pirate have a rear engined 2 seater. very nice, but not as nice as Spidertrax's MG2 (or whatever it's called)

but then the input becomes the rear output which will be turning at a different speed to the front output
with a zuki case it will even be different in high range
i edited my post Wendle, but i knew what i meant...
