after market fuel TANK ?'s

Post by Barathrum »

i recived my new fuel cell today. Alumimium foam filled.
Just wondering on the exact way to hook it up. it has two fittings for lines coming out the bottom of the tank, i assume that these are both fuel output lines. it also has two fittings for line in the top. I am running an EFI vitara engine. The cell has no sender for a level. could i set the cell up useing just one output line and using on of the top lines for the return. then put a clear line between the other output and the other line on top so that i have a level indicator, or do i have to use the other line on top for a breather?
also as the fuel output lines are at the bottom on one side, should i mount these pointing towards the front or the rear. if the fuel drains(when low on fuel) to one end of the tank during a climb or a decent, am i better off running out of fuel while going uphill or down? this is in a worst case situation.

ok, you have bought a "drag racing" tank. you will need one of the top fittings for a breather. I bought a similar tank, and also a guage unit to suit, so it will run the standard guage in the dash. block off the other output at the bottom, and run the sump at the rear, as inertia, and gravity when going uphill, will work in your favour. you can always roll downhill, and will place less demand going slowly forward, than at 15,000rpm going uphill. (it is a zook isn't it?). with efi, unless you have a swirl tank, if the pickup loses fuel for more than a couple of seconds, your engine will stall, not good when charging uphill, not so critical with a carby.

Thanks CRUSHU, thats sorta what i thought.

What do i need to run as a breather? is there a specially made fitting for one or do i just us an open line with some sort of filter on the end of it?

you can buy a special breather, which is a one way roll over valve, so your fuel doesn't leak out if you tip it over.

in our drag cars, we use a hose with a loop in it, with a filter on the end, running up.
