RR Belly tanks

Looking for Belly tanks for RR I dont want to cut fill holes in floor. What have others used and where did you get the tanks from I would prefer tanks that fill from the wheel arch and transfer to the main. car is 90 RR with 65mm body lift. I was hoping to get the tanks well up in the chassis out of harms way. thanks

If you want them up that high i think you will need to get custom made ones, my tanks sit about 2 " below the door sills and fill thru the floor - not really a problem as i will be using lpg most of the time anyway.
If you know a good welder it wouldnt be too hard to knock up a pair to your design.

I bought a fuel and water tank from Long Range Automotive. They fill from the wheel arch.

I didn't fit them at the time because they hang below the chassis rail. Since fitting a body lift I intend to alter the brackets to get them up higher.

I found Long Range Automotive were good to deal with. If you discuss what you want with them, I expect they could build it for you.

Can you remember what you paid for your Long range tanks the fill through the floor ones are 700 odd and 40 lt per side from Melb. Freight is much the same from anywhere here.

I've got sill tanks on my 79.

They fill through the wheel arches, and what a pain that is!
I usually run mine on gas, so only put petrol in them every couple of months.
It's dirty.
The cap must make a good seal.
You have to fill them slowly.
They spit fuel (on filling).
You need a hose for the jerry can.

Overall, I'd say they are good, but only because I run on gas.
The sill tanks are only for getting me to next gas outlet.

I think filling through the floor would be easier, however maybe a little inconvenient. Don't know if they smell.

Do you have a body lift and what is the worst part of filling through wheel arch? No room? Mud and crud or slow fill? I want to use tanks only when out back most times they would be empty unless setting out on a long run with no fuel available on route.

k & n fabrications do 50L sill tanks (each side) over here in perth. Because of the nature of their business you can take in you vehicle and they can modify their design to suite bodylift or whatever. It has been suggested to me before that you should only fit them after a body lift because as you can see in Ralf the RR's photos it appears to loose some ground clearance. Therefore with a 65mm lift you should get your's custom fitted by a specialist so as not to loose ground clearance.

Why don't you want to fill it from the floor?? Seems all the specialists recomend you fill it from the floor as its easier acces and never cluttered or dirty (hope you have nothing at you feet while driving).

When i fitted mine, i put in those boat screw bungs and now its easier to drain the water out :lol:

Here's the Filler.
It's probably better than the photo shows, but still painful.
Everything is dirty (well on mine it is).
Room is not a problem.
Yes, I have to fill slowly, otherwise it spurts out the filler.

Not sure if crap gets in the tank. Probably does.

No body lift, but I believe it's spring lifted (but sagged).

Thanks for the pics Harry see what you mean about tight fit on fillup but heaps more room with lift.

Not keen on floor for several reasons Stuee mostly petrol fumes and water getting in through floor' car still has original floor rugs and lots of sound deadening (its a Vogue) also wife :evilbat: not to keen on idea of me tipping fuel in anything inside the car. ;)
Looks like its time to have a measure up and bite the bullet one way or the other.
