LPG install for an NK 3.0

Post by mixtli »

Hi folks,
We've just purchased an NK 3.0 Paj and I'm toying with the idea of an LPG install for it.
I've spoked to GasPower in perth who gave me a straight out price of $2850
Mews autogas said they weren't lpg compatible
Parnell put me onto Perth auto gas who said they didn't have an NK kit...NL was $3300 and an NM was $2800.
Colour me confused :)
Any thoughts?

Hi mixtli - welcome to OL.

You'll get conflicting stories about whether or not the Pajero V6s are LPG compatible. A former Mitsubishi Mech Eng told me the 3.0 doesn't like LPG, while the 3.5 is OK - I trust him. I'm sure you'll receive replies which contradict me. :D

Look at it this way. Those who want to do the conversion stand to profit from the job. The mob who turned you away don't want your money?

Cheers,

Scott

Nk with a 3ltr ...hmmmm I thought the 3ltr was discontinued with the NJ series.Either way if its a 3ltr do not put on gas as they are not really compatable. 3.5 yes ,but do your figures as regardes to the cost savings in the long run.

thanks for the response guys.
I've spoken to another reliable source who confirmed what Mews autogas said...basically due to valve recession issues on the 3.0, they're just not happy on lpg.
Looks like I'll save some cash...to spend on other stuff :)

it's definitely an NK 3.0...build date is 10/96 :)
So instead of an lpg convo, I'll look into removing the mechanical fan and installing a set of thermofans.
From what I've read, if I combine that with a set of genie extractors and a 2 1/2" exhaust, I should see increases in power and economy.

Just finished fitting thermo's to my paj. Seems to have better roll-on acceleration but still doesn't break out into massive wheelspin. Engine sounds quieter without full time fan noise. Used 2 12inch Davies Craig with standard controller. It all fits easily and works well. I fitted a similar system to a Falcon ute years ago and it performed well for six years till I sold the car.

Hey Greggo, do you have any photos of your thermo setup?
Also an approximate cost to the install?

I've been thinking about doing this to our LWB 3.5 for a while.
Even a little Tech Article would be cool, im sure others out there would also like to give this one a go...

No problem South. I'll take some photo's tomorrow and work out my approx cost and post it late Tuesday night or most likely Wednesday. I'd better give the old girl a bath if she's gonna be in some happy snaps. :onfire:

Hey, South.

Here it is, http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35312

Hope this helps. I havn't received my invoice for the parts yet but from memory the switch was $70rrp and the fans were $180rrp each. The rest of the stuff I had at home already. Probably took me 5 hours of very easy going. I just took my time because I could only be bothered to do it the once.
