80 series replacment rear bar

My rear plastic bumber is stuffed.
Want to get steel rear bar.

Just wanting to know what sort other people have and what they do and don't like about them.

I've been looking at this too. 80 series is a pita.
I've looked at building one but put it in the too
hard basket for the time been. Kaymar type bars
are a rip off and not that tough. I'm going to chop
my 1/4's off and go from there. Maybe a cheezy
rear bar with wheel carrier.

The only bolt-on rear bar commercially made I have seen is the Kaymar and I think they are ridicously expensive, heavy and give poor departure angle. Even if I couldn't make my own bar I would rather pay someone for a custom made one to suit my excact needs than buy a Kaymar.

Ok see in this pic. I'll be cutting the panel behind where the
tube is. So just under the panel that is normally covered
by the bumperette. I'm getting my exhaust moved also.

Would be very intersed in seeing what you do and how it goes.

Just realised that even with a replacement bar my tyres will still scrub but on metal instead. Probably worse.

Just don't like the idea of cutting the car body.

As much as I love my truck I will one day want to sell it.

What do you do then?

I had planned to cut the quarter in the same way but after designing the rear bar I decided it wouldn't have any advantages.

I've got to get the exhaust moved but holding off on the new exhaust till I fit a turbo :roll:

What size tryes are you running with what sort of suspension/body lift?

Sounds like you don't have enough lift for your tyres.

I have a 6inch suspension lift with 35's

A rear bar will not stop them from hitting quater,

Only thing I can do is limit travel or cut I geuss?????

Are your bump stops removed? I run 35" pedes and have run Q78's with a sagged 5" lift and have never scrubbed the tyres on any panels only the chassis rail as you can see in the last photo posted.

Yes a ute would be very :cool: But what will you gain by cutting the quarters? Are you going to make a rear bar that just goes straight across the back and not around the quarters?

Only had lift a few months originally It did not rub.
But i took it back few weeks ago as they got the shock length wrong.
They had put shocks for 5inch lift on, not 6inch

With the longer shocks I am getting heaps better flex, Drive way better off road. but it now hits cause i'm getting mor drop on one side and the other is going just that bit high into well to just scrub.

(Forgot your name, someone from here driving a QG at Ormeau that noticed the shocks were not long enough for springs.)

The way it's going i'll cut the 1/4's and not worry about a bar for
a while if at all. Or i might just bend some tube and go from the
chassis rail around to the wheel arch and back across to the
chassis rail.

have adjustable panhard.
Corect me If I'm wrong, but if that is not set correct it would rub only on one side, not both the same amount as it is.

Thats right. Cruisers with small lifts such as mine :cry:
the left hand side sticks out further.

Sorry I assumed it was only one side and not both. Guess the only way is to limit your travel as you mentioned.
