P76 sprigot bearing

Post by GURU »

G'day all,

was swapping stuff over between the old p76 and the rebuilt short motor I got, went to put the clutch on and noticed the new one has a roller bearing sprigot bearing as opposed the the brass bush of the old one. problem is the inside diameter of the bearing is way too small for the R380 input shaft.

any idea's? I was just going to try and get a roller bearing with the right size inside diametre. but why would they be different ??

Is it possible that the old P76 engine has the modified RR flywheel and the recond short motor has the original P76 wheel?

I think you will find the P76's had a roller bearing standard when in the car. To match up to the input shaft of your Rangie, you will have to remove the roller bearing and put the spigot bush in from your old motor. Just another little thing that people forget to tell you when they say "oh yeah ... the P76 just drops straight into the Rangie" ... lol. But you are fortunate in that you already had one and therefore you have the right spigot in the rear of that crank ... now you just need a puller to get the buggers out. You can buy pullers specifically designed to remove seals and spigot bearings etc.

Did you get my email asking how the job was going?

Cheers

Also the mounting bolt pattern is different on the RR flywheel to the P76 crank..

To remove bearing try filling void with grease, insert a shaft or wooden dowel that is a snug fit and RAP hard.
Wear safety glasse. This should hydraulic bush out.

it must have been bored out. couldn't get a ball bearing to fit my gearbox, so I made a spacer to use original bush type bearing.

bazzle - that works good except on ball bearings as the grease comes through the balls
