36 or 38 TSL Swampers
I am looking at getting new meats for the runner. I currently have 35" BFG's and am looking for some off-road tyres. I run rs44044 springs on the front with the diff moved forward.
I have narrowed it down to Swampers. MTR's do not suit the WA offroad conditions. So I do not want opions on tyres just size.
So should I go straight to 38's or stick with 36's. I have to make mods to the fenders to fit these, but that does not worry me. IF I get the 36's will I wish I had got the 38's?? I know the 38's are really only 37" tall so it's not that much off a difference.
What do you think???
Chris.

Yeh you will need to get longfields before you run the 38's.
I broke 5 Cv's in the space of 5 months running 35 boggers.
I threw in a set of longs and never had a problem until i broke a front axle and blew me lokka.
All this on 35's.
I have now gone to 38.5 baja claws but with plans of beefing up the running gear.
38.5 claws could be another option, fairly cheap for the size.
They measure around about 40 inches.

I do plan on getting longfields, but you do you have a point about blowing CV's. Plus I have a V8 so this is not going to help

Chris.

Oh sh*t yeh, defently get the 38's, but be prepared for plenty of busted cv's or axles or worse diffs.
After the first couple i ended up making a special tool kit just for changing cv's and axles.
It would also be a good idea to price some heavy duty axles aswell as the long's.

One thing to look at before buying big meats is if you want to do comps and if so what comps? As a lot of them have a tyre size limit of 36 x 12.5. The outback challenge is one of these as is most of the vicy comps and that is why I want go any bigger then 36`s. I myself want 37 x 13 boggers. I know you are in WA its just something for you to look at before handing out big $$$

The comps here in WA don't seem to have any tyre size limits in Open class. I don't see myself traveling cross country to do comps. The fuel bill would kill me

You are right about the rear guards, they are small and serious mods are needed.
The plan is to cut the front and rear guards and bob the rear end. So I will be doing some serious body mods.
BTW what is the best price you guys can get for:
36 x 12.5 x 15
38 x 12.5 x 15
Chris
kindaa off the topic

dont listen to the Hmm, you will break your shit with 36s, OR 38s, JUST AS MUCH
boatlux (pos) was running 35s, and i was running 38s, and i broke a CV half a metre or less before he did, pretty much the same spot, SOOO i think FAWK IT and go with the 38s
suck it up!! the 38s aren't in real terms, that much bigger than a 35 either, and dont get those GAY 12.5s, you want at LEAST 14.5
ok cool!!
hands and mums dont count!!!

I moved the axle foward by re-drilling the spring perch. Then I hammed in the seem. No rubbing. But my 35's really are only about 33.5" - 34" tall

Obviously I have cross over steering for this to work.
Chris.
Re: kindaa off the topic
so did you get th shits with WA's road laws you moved to London?
and what did you go in the end

and what did you go in the end

im in a similar state of mind, 4runner with tg 5in springs, maybe 2in body lift "dont really believe in BL) but currently running 35's and want either 37's or 38's, however have you taken into accout when /if you tear the sidewall out of one, there goes $500 + if u dont have lockers go them first, ive seen trucks with fuck all mods bar F+R air lockers, out wheel unlocked bigrubber big flex rigs..

Don't waste your time with 27 spliners just go the 30 spline super set straight up and eliminate those piss weak axlesPOS wrote:Yeh you will need to get longfields before you run the 38's.
