Just got home,And i must say a HUGE CONGRATS TO SAM & HIS TEAM OF HELPERS for holding another great event.Top work guys....

I had a bloody ball over the weekend,Flopped pretty hard on the winch stage, managed to self recovery and finish the stage with the left front tyre off the rim and still had 7 secs to spare at the end.
Then in the drags my clutch decided to catch on fire in the first run.Gee burning clutch smells great (NOT).
And then rock crawling stage, well what can i say,THAT HAS TO THE BEST RIDE IN THE PARK...

We came, we drove, we had the best time!

Special big thanks to Sam and the team for putting on such a great event. Definitely feel there's a place for a battle of the codes in the comp. scene with the variety of vehicles out there. The crowd certainly seemed to enjoy it too, particularly on Sat.
Great venue for such an event, Rover Park. Thanks too to Hans and Heidi for their warm hospitality. So good to have the luxury of comfy accomo and amenties close to enjoy, especially during that storm Sat late arvo.

We are really disappointed that we had to drop out after the mud drags and not do the rock crawling course. Cos up until then we where actually placed 4TH Overall, yes it's true, sorry guys, ask Tony's Kate if you don't believe me.
We can happily say Survivor Chick is back in the hands of our trusty Commodore V8 Racing Specialist, Michael of Wardsport, Brookvale and he doesn't seem to think it's 'bearing' damage, more like the Harmonic Balancer!..... so we're holding thumbs, cos we still have one more Outback Challenge(our 5th) to do this May.

Overall we certainly enjoyed ourselves and all the courses and there was nothing there that we haven't tackled before, except maybe driving the 'bonus point' sheer rock faces.....but then we choose to drive as far as u can up stuff and then winch.....turns out cheaper in the long run.

What really pleased me most personally tho, was the fact that we have a little truck that can do it all, well almost!......which I don't think many other truck owners can say. She ;) is undoubtedly a great little allrounder!

Thanks again to you all for your warm welcome and I'm sure we'll be back again.

Cheers,
Celia & Eugene

I haven't been to a rock buggy orientated event before and all I can say, IT WAS AWESOME.
Battle of the Codes was for me one of the best events I have been to for action.
This sort of action is what the crowds love to watch.
Thanks to Sam and all the Outerlimit Guys and Officials making this event possible.
It was very well organised with a good number of entrants which made the event flow.
The action was incredible, the event displayed extremely good and gutsy driving. (heart stopping moments).

Well done to all.

The weekend was accompanied with a Typhoon. Blew everything away just about, flash flooding and lightning bolts striking trees just 80mtrs away from our camp....sparks and arks enough to make all yell out, "Every man for him self".
This all was part of making a very unforgettable enjoyable weekend.

All up media wise, ORP and 4wdTV had 6 camera's capturing footage and Mick Ellem was snapping away from Offroadimages.com.
We all had the best time with some very close calls, but luckily survived once again.
ORP guarantees release of the Battle of the Codes DVD will be within 6 weeks of the event.
Stay tune for video samples on www.orp.com.au as well as a new face lift to my old very simple web site.

Great Comp. Thanks to all those who turned up to either compete or spectate.

A few people stood out to me that were competing.

First was Celia. Although i know you were worried when we first walked the Winch Section you did a great job as did Eugene. You just kept your Cool in all situations

Then there was Ali(Chris Roctoy's Other half and navigator) There were times when you looked like you were about to fall down and die but then the crowed cheared you on and you were off like the energiser bunny again. You did a great job under a lot of pressure

Tom (GQ) even though you couldnt hear a word Wes was saying to you(Which was piss funny at times because Wes still kept yelling out to you all weekend  ) you did a fantastic job and i think if Wes jumps Ship on me and continues driving you are going to be busy for a long time. And i think my winning streak will come to an end as soon as you guys get more sorted.

Micheal (The Suit Man) in the fresh red tubed out 40. For a first drive of a fresh Rig you did well and with a little more seat time and a few refinements on your machine you should give a lot of other rigs a run for their money.

Pete A You were right on my heals all weekend and all it would have taken was me to break early in the Rockcrawling course and you would have had me but what can i say "Allways a Bridesmade never a Bride" :finger:

The Crowd was great although i think they are still a little Quiet. Dont worry about putting us off from chearing us on. The louder you get the more action you will get from us. If we are doing something that excites you let us know and we may just do a little more of it

The organisation was also great and even Sam himself did a great job and i think he actually enjoyed it more than he enjoys competing :D

Ok now after my smoke shows in the rockcrawling stage im looking for a new set of Tyres in the 37" range for WEROCK so if there are any Tire guys looking for a Rig to Sponsor look this way please ;)

Oh yeah and i did have a decent endo after the comp driving a line i have driven in the past and i did injure myself a little. I have compressed my spine slightly which has done no permanant damage but has tweaked a few muscles. I should be back in the seat within a week or so. When i landed i landed on a football sized rock which made its way through my roof between my crossbrace and pushed my helmet down fairly hard. It hurt a lot, My first though was a broken neck as i could not breath but after a few seconds and some slow moving to climb out i was fealing a little better. This was the only injury i have sustained in a few real hard rolls so it does show how well good bar work can save you. We will now be adding at least 3mm expanded mesh to the roofs of all or buggys just so there is a little less chance of this ever happening again. This is realy something no one ever wants to experiance i have never been so scared as i was for those few seconds.

Anyway i had a great time obviously as i Won  And i hope this event is Bigger and Better in 2006.

Here are some pics of the damage to my roof after the roll

i was just about to post up and ask how you were today ...

by the way, wes pushed the roof back up so he could get in it so it was a lot worse than that ;)

I dont think it would have been much different. It still would have missed the other bar totaly. I will be removing the cross brace that is currently there and adding a sheet of 3mm expanded mesh. Welded at every contact point covering the entire roof. I will then cover the roof in some 1.2mm ally sheet.

Tony
In my opinion i would keep the diagonal brace there and weld in the mesh around it.
That way you will keep the strength in the cage as well as having the mesh to stop anything coming through the roof.
Anyway top drive over the weekend and hope the neck feels better.

Just my 2 cents worth..

The strength will be retained as long as its welded at ever contact point. I dont need more weight than is needed up there.

Here are the results. The "rain" means that the rain prevented the competitor from competing on that course. In these cases their final result was just the average of the remaining courses that they ran. When competitors ended on equal points the rockcrawling result was used to break the tiebreak.

Results----

Driver Winch ToughTruck R/Crawling MudDrag Average PLACE
Peter Antunac OPW FJ40 2 3 9 2 4.00 2
Mick Garner Mogrover 4 2 3 11 5.00 3
Matt Pisani Gonands 5 12 13 6 9.00 10
Wes Clifford Lockless 1 9 14 10 8.50 9
Tony Robinson Budgie 3 1 1 3 2.00 1
Adrian Berthelsen Jeckle 10 6 14 1 7.75 7
Rod Owen Tractor 14 8 2 7 7.75 6
Craig Scotney Humphey 9 4 4 4 5.25 4
David Burton-Bradley Beebee 14 7 6 13 10.00 13
Scott Henry 83lux 14 13 12 15 13.50 16
Chris Clark Roc70y 11 11 7 8 9.25 11
Shane Gerrish Big Red 8 rain 5 12 8.33 8
Jamie Way Fourwheelin 12 5 11 14 10.50 14
Michael DePasquale Tubed Red FJ40 13 rain 10 16 13.00 15
Gary Stevens Toymad 6 rain 8 9 7.67 5
Celia Barry Survivior chick 7 10 15 5 9.25 12

The values in each column is the result that the competitor achieved in each event - eg a 1 means that they came first or a 7 means that they came 7th etc. Therefore the average is the average of all the placings that the competitor achieved and the final placings are based on these averages.

Hey Sam
Thanks heaps for posting the scores and Tony sorry to read about the endo....not fun having neck injuries, some would prob say u r a pain in the neck anyway....just kidding. he he!
Congrats on the results you champ you....buggies sure are fun, now can anyone work out how to make them OBC friendly? Hmmm a 'Dakar' rig might be the go, some of them look pretty buggie like.
No worries about the courses, I always freak out beforehand....it's the nerves. But I really enjoyed the challenge once I got going.
We're happy with 12th also, considering we missed the rock crawling course.
Thanks again to you all for a great time, we also really enjoyed watching the buggies going thru their paces too.

Good Luck with your next comp......

:) Celia & Eugene
