help with water hose....any ideas?

well those of u with power steer pump on a hilux(2.8d duno if the other motors are similar) but problem is the water hose from the pump to the bottom of the radiator rubs on the p/s pump... this is the 2nd hose in a year to get a hole. all the vibration rubs the rubber away.... anyone got any ideas on wot can be done to avoid this..... it presivloy didnt have p/s so when i got it put on we used a thick flexi but strong hose.... its marked on the pic where it ran under the pump.Where the 2 arrows are thast were most the damge occurs.... is there a better hose to use or can u run a thinner hose or sumthin? does this happen to anyone else?

wot has others done?

had similar issue with fuel hose no diesel
all i did was get a hose same size ish, slit it and clamp it over the hose that is rubbing , the hose will still rub but it will be the outer protecting slit piece of hose instead ;)

half assed but very effective, check it once a month!

The 2L-T (Surf) and 3L 4Runners have a steel tube that runs along the base of the radiator and up the passenger side to the bolt that holds the lower radiator shroud on. From there it's a long rubber bend back to the motor which clears the power steering by 3-4 inches.

Now you have fitted power steering you have to either get a radiator to suit the power steering or modify your radiator to power steering specs

My bottome radiator outlet turns 90' to face the passenger side, there is a small rubber hose that goes onto the solid pipe that I've badly drawn on the pic for the hose to clamp onto half way up the side of the radiator.

this seems to be the best idea i thinks.. did u do it urself ?


was also thinking about htose braded hoses ... wonder if they can absorb rubbing better.

mine runs exactly the same as yours phippsy but i have no power steering
84lux-project. A-frame, 350 chev, turbo 350 auto, duals, rears up front, crossover, twin locked and a 118" wheelbase

Scotto's Idea is the best, no matter what you put on there unless you move the rubbing items they are still going to rub, all that using braided hose will do is be more expensive to replace, might even wear quicker.

If the braided hose rubs, it may start wearing you power steering pump. No that would be worse.

well thanks for all the help... after bein to toyota and a few spare shops.... i carnt run the p/s hose setup as the problem is i dont a a p/s setup readiator..the outlet is in a different spot :x so i will b goign with scottos ideas:)

Cut the hose, and replace that section with a piece of metal pipe. You can get most sizes from places like Bunnings. Maybe even the copper plumbing pipe?
Doing up a RN46.... slowly at the moment.

Now for sale see classifieds.
