Cut 6 inches off with a grinder? Don't forget to either lift the gearbox or lower your seat & steering wheel so you can reach it.

Phil,
alot of people on this forum seem to jump on people who ask not always the best thought out questions pretty damn quickly kinda frustrates me a bit.
I thought about it too when i brought my shorty that it was too long of a shift. especially after coming from a close ratio dogbox., after i lifted it a lil and put some spacers underneath the box its near perfect
You'll probably find if you put the stick too much lower the centre console will get in ya way and the reach (unless you've got crazy ape like arms) will be an issue. if not go into an engineering joint and they'll trim it down and re-thread it to suit pretty cheaply

Cutting the length of a shifter doesn't make it a short throw shifter. You have to change the pivot points of the shifter itself so you don't have to move it as far to change gears. This in turn will give you less leverage and will make it harder to change gears. If the box is a bit sloppy then get it serviced and have the bush that goes around your shifter replaced. This will give you a much better gear change and leave you confident in your gear selection.

Cutting the shifter will still help to a degree, because the distance fron the fulcrum to the force being reduced will also reduce the amount of distance the 'force' has to travel.....imagine if your shiter was 2 metres long (obviously would need a soft-top..but anyway), youd' have to move the shifter well over a metre to change gears......the shorter your shifter, the less distance you have to move it.
