Stock Diffs

About to get around to changing the oils and adding breathers and noticed that the drain and fillers have a square type fitting. Do you need a special tool to remove them or is there a simple tool like a 1/2" socket driver that you can use to remove them.

that's what i use, just the 1/2" (at least i think that's what it is) socket thing

Changed all the oils I could. Boy were there some ugly old oils!!

Problems with rear diff and gearbox. Drain plugs are seized (well I can't get them out) so how do you change them??

man! if you had seen what i did to take my diff filler plug out, you'd freak!
the silly bugger that had the Vitara before me had rounded out the inside, so the ratchet would not work. last oil change i did, i used a cold chisel to loosen it. but it leaked a bit, so i did it up a bit tighter.

yesterday, i had the dillemma of removing it to put oil back into my diff, but the bloody thing wouldn't loosen. i was at it with the cold chisel and hammer for about 15-20 mins and it wouldn't budge. i'll get a pic of the plug to show. anyway, seeing as i hadn't driving the zook in a couple of weeks, everything was cold, so i got out the oxy and heated it for about 5-10 mins! got at it with the chisel and hammer, and withing the 5 smack, it came undone. i heated the housing around the actual plug.

after seeing what i did to the plug, i HAD to get a new one. couldn't find one in any of those retail shops, autobahn, independant, or repco. they had a few, but mostly toyota and nissan. went to suzuki and thought its gonna cost me a fortune, but it came in at $5 for the plug, and 2$ for the copper washer.

now we all know what to do when the diff plugs are seized, or you could take it for a drive, and heat the oil up a bit, should be the same, and watch for the hot oil.

I just weld a nut to the plug and undo it.
Less likelyhood of damaging anything.
