gearbox transplant into a 40 from a 60 NFI

Guys,

Does anyone know if this will fit?

Am I dreamin? :? :?:

Puttin it in the FJ40, I think I have the origional but maybe not as the gearshifts are WAY up the front of the holes in the floor for them. This maybe due to the V8 conversion though. Any help greatly appreiciated as I have no idea . . .

Hey mate,

Check this post out;

http://forum.ih8mud.com/printthread.php?t=21620

Other things;

- Grab some rear drums off a 60 to relocate the handbrake (have to get a custom cable), will fit on a 40 series rear floater
- Gearlever output is about 90mm further back than a standard 40 4spd
- Tailshaft cut and shut
- maybe custum mounts depending on where your current gearbox mounts on the bellhousing or under the gearbox.
- Early chassis (pre 74' may have to have the x-member modified) due to the extra length

All kiddy stuff really, now putting a 1FZ with all the wiring in and a engine/gearbox that 250mm is longer than this 5 speed, is a challenge ;)

Sumthin else too but can't remember at the mo'

Have a hunt on the web for 'H55F' which is the gearbox designation.

Cheers

Cheers,

I have actually sussed a Diesel 5 speed box + transfer out of a 55 series.

Apparently the diesel 5 speed is stronger than the petrol 5 speed.

Hopefully the gears are a bit lower too. But when I finally can go and get this thing ($) I will put it aside pull it apart and reco and try and slip some lower gears in. Haven't looked yet to see if you can get the gears for that type of case but will adapt a trans fer care if I can't. Long term project.

In the short term though I am thinking of trying to make up a 2nd gearbox x-member, I am planning to bolt it on like the snake racing hilux mount works, ie a plate onto the back of the case. Mainly case I have seen a couple of these things blown to pieces because there is nothing holding them from the bellhousing back.

Don't worry pics will come when I get there.

in a 40 series 5 spd. the gear stick mounts into the front of the selector rail. in a 60 series it mounts towards the back of the selector rail.
