Exhaust System for Disco - the result

Post by phippsey »

Well, I had my exhaust system installed. 2 1/2in straight through with middle and end straight through resonators and Genie extractors.

The result? Quite a nice sound, very different from the system on my previous 3.5 78 Rangie.

The exhaust guy did say that if we went any louder it would make the cabin too loud as it is a wagon. He is correct! At the lower speeds (60) it is quite a low, deep 'hum' which I don't have in my 308 Caprice with dual 2 1/2in system.

It is a unique sound, fairly 'throaty' and makes an improvement to the car, while still remaining legal. My complete installed system cost me $870.

I wouldn't reccomend a system any louder, or else you'd go insane in a wagon, but would be fine in a ute or sedan!:D

That sounds about right pricewise.

I'm suprised you fitted extractors as the stock manifolds are quite good anyway, but at least you have eliminted any sort of leakage problem that comes with cast iron manifolds :D

My 3.5 is begging for extractors, unless I can get a y-piece from an early EFI Rangie cheap (later one off Aquarangie didn't fit because of the round crossmember set-up).

Passenger side exhaust manifold is OK.

The drivers side is restrictive.

If anyone still has the factory main muffler, get rid of it. They choke the engine something fierce.

I was hoping for 'an amazing power increase' which I got on my Caprice.

But it didn't happen on this!

DAMN that loud fan. I will sort it one day. :bad-words:

DAMN Maxi drives being so expensive - anyone got any for sale>??
