Auto fluid change

Post by lexi »

Hi Guys
Anyone know how to remove ALL the fluid from the auto box of GQ. How much is left once the sump pan is dropped. I`ve changed mine twice and my fluid is still a grey colour. I mean you`re only pouring clean fluid into remaining dirty stuff you wouldn`t do it with the engine oil so I`m gonna clean out the sump pan and change fluid and filter. I`m hopin there`s another way rather than power flushing. Any you guys got nice red fluid after ten years? I have on my Accord.

Good question. I'd be interested to know also. As far as I know most of the fluid lives in the torque convertor, so unless you drop the box there's no other way of getting all of it out. Look for other "auto box" questions and you will find a guy called Rodney from Wholesale Automatics. He'll give you the full goss. they're in Bayswater, Melbourne

Power flushing is the only way as there is too much oil left in the tourque converter. When you drain the sump you are only draining the reserve, there can be up to 10 litres left in the rest of the tranny (depending on the type).

One trick is to not let it get that bad, as soon as the oil starts to smell burnt or gets to the required time span (kilometers or years ) then replace it.

The old C4's (XY) used to have a drain plug in the Converter but it was never that common.

Only thing wrong with Power flushing is it`s a PITA. I would have liked to get all my old fluid out before I change the filter casing rather than power flush the old fluid through the new filter. That drain plug on the TC sounds good to me! To power flush you need to get a 25ltr drum of fluid and pump it into the dipstick tube while disconnecting one of the outlets (to the cooler?) engine running you`ll probably empty the drum before fluid runs clean, otherwise take it to a specialist where they have massive big windows to see you coming. Any one got red fluid?

When I used to power flush, i would use the drum as a feed using the cooling lines, this is the only way as it will run dry otherwise. It often takes 20 lt to remove all the black fluid anyway.
