woo hoo, got my lock right installed

i got my lock right installed on the weekend, and now its all done. wasn't able to get any pics. but i was wondering, on my diff, the left axle shaft has a bit more free play than the right. the right axle seems always locked on to the driveshaft. is this normal?
but it works good though. love it! doesn't skip the inside wheel at all, unless your gunning it.!!!

and another thing, vitara diff centres have two different types of side gears! one set are weaker than the other. the weaker ones are the ones found in aus models i think, which have the teeth covered. these ones are weaker than the ones which dont have the teeth covered. sorry i dont have pics. but its a good idea to get the other ones if possible to fit with the lock right locker. i could be wrong though.

just be gentle on the road and rocks or you'll get real good at replacing rear axles like me (i've done 3 )

nope, the vits still off the road, still haven't got rego for it, and i still need to tune the engine a bit to get it going good. i think the timing is way out, can't get it to idle below 1500, maybe its the new weber on it too. i've had it around the block a couple of times, and the little thing rips now. way better than before.

should have everything done by the week end. i'll need to get some pics.

The rear diff comes as either a 10 or 12 bolt. Changed to 12 bolt around '93.

Yep, ducked in to get some CV grease and ended up with oil on me from the shelves Always after a good price as there is more work to be done.

Whats the deal with broken rear axles in vitaras ? Does it happen only useing the lokrite locker . What about the ARB air locker are they any easier on axles

i dont think that rear axles break often in vitaras, but if your using a locker, and running 32"+ muddies, and you give it curry up a hill, you could break one.

any type of locker will put a lot of stress on axles and bearings, but with a ARB air locker, the axles aren't constantly at stress like they would be with a lock right.

i've also noticed a lot of wheelers in the UK are using vitara running gear, but namely the rear diff as they say it is stronger then a sierra one. i dont know what they use for the front end though. but i guess different countries have different mind sets.

i've done 1 drivers and two passenger side axles, and whenever i pulled the centre to get the metal out, the other side that didn't break was twisted good and proper

btw, the last two i broke were only on my 30in muddies, not the 32in mongrels
