Just wondering if it is possible to run a thicker oil in my original 3 speed auto box out of an 85 rover with 4.6L conversion. I have had the bands wound up, apparently there is no more adjustment left, but i still feel that it is slipping, not the familiar with an auto as of yet. I thought that a thicker oil may lock things up a bit more!! Is this a wise move or should i think gearbox overhall?
Cheers

Automatic Transmission Oil?
Go it or blow it
I remembger my Chrylser box in my 84 Rangie started to slip and the big bang happened about 2 months later. I'm not too sure running diffrent type fluid may help you, but if your adjustments are at full tension, it's not long til rebuild time
Once that happens, ZF time

For an 85, there's isn't anyhting too complicated, also being an auto already makes the job easier.
Make sure you get all of the shifter and so forth with the box when you do scorce one. Also the trasnfer case is taller in the Chrysler auto, so getting a complete unit inc. transfer woukd be the go.. I have seen also the Rangie ZF panel which will screw straight over the top of the centre console section, amking the conversion a bit neater.
I'm will be doing mine soon, an 83 manual to ZF auto. Should be intersting and challenging
