thort id share a story with you all
my brothers 12ht (hj61) has been making a slight ticking noise on light engine load & certain engine speeds & was starting to blow smoke on cold start ups
about 12months ago sister inlaw took it to a diesel specialist near camden.
took it for a drive n said he couldnt say what it was for sure but
nothing goes wrong with 12ht engines try disconnecting the drive belts n recheck the noise
anyway thursday arvo i get a call said its stalled at roundabout n she stoped it 1km after started knocking real bad.
drove around had a lookski was running on 5 cylinders n knocking slightly.
180L tank was almost empty towed her home (600meters) put 20L diesel in her bleed injector pump & injectors
removed turbo plumbing rocker cover all looked good started n was running fine noise wasnt there.
but was blowing blue smoke (oil) got me brother to have a look at the smoke see if its the norm
it more than its been blowing when cold
had it running for 10mins with rocker cover off n turbo plumbing
from idle to 3000rpm was going sweet thort it was air in injector lines causing the knock
then it started knocking again
sed to brother sounds like somthings floating around in the there
removed head sunday heres some pics for the interested people
its busted the piston rings been working there way to the top & what was causing the engine smoke when cold. for i guess 12 months or more suspect thats the noise hes been chassing.
so much for drive belt noise as stated above (diesel tech) had said
so there maybe a 6.5litre turbo engine replacing the 12ht engine bay OR strip it for parts ????????
see how the money goes hes just moved in to a new home no gardens or anything so id say its getting put on the back burner
another mates 1hz (79s 2002) makes a similiar noise hes spent $1000 having diesel specialists check it out
id better let him know it may have a brocken ring
but hes isnt burning oil.
