It actually strengthens the centre and makes the cv`s the week spot

A guy off the Surf site just blew the crown wheel and the air locker in one hit, yet the CV's are OK I assume as there was no mention of them failing.
Was a lot of expensive mutterings.

I have broken 1 front diff with a loc-rite and 3 without.

i run a rear air locker in my 03 lux and it works a treat. Nil problems with it yet. I want a front locker but have to wait a year or so. Have to get married first. No more toys for me until after that

Ive got an air locker in the back of my V6 04 hilux, works a treat, but cos of the IFS articulation (or lack of it) it really hasnt done SERIOUS rock hoping. has worked fantastic of big lumpy cross axle fire trails. only prob ive had is diff oil coming up the air tube into the compressor. ARB routed in a by pass valve near the rear axle, now the oil pisses out over the axle!!

have heard from lots of others that front diffs either break or the CVs snap when the IFS bites traction when the body drops the wheels into contact with the ground.

Ive also heard that the current V6 hilux has tougher running gear than ealier modesl due to extra power from V6, but cant comment myself as Im not an engineer.

Also had a rear locker in my 89 Forerunner, and never had any problems.

hope this gives another perspective

Ive had both air lockers fitted for about 6 months in my 04 lux. Havent broken anything but havnet been off roading much. When I have been off road the difference is awesome. Tracks that have been un acheiveable in the past no matter how hard I hit them are now 1st low crawl ups. All i need now is lift and bigger tyres.

Cheers
