Hey Charmaine.
I am coming along to this run. A guy from work is keen to have a go at it. His problem is, he only has a stock Ford Courier, and is worried about being able to get through the course. I will be navving for him, so will there be ways around the harder checkpoints?

This is a problem we have always had. (Well, as long as I've been in the club anyway). It seems to always be the same people manning checkpoints, because the larger majority of the members want to compete. It is always very difficult to get enough officials. But, we always seem to manage.

Is this a inter club nav run that members of NBS can attend? This has been discussed previously and I was under the impression that it would be open to NBS members.

OK, guys (and girls).
On the subject of inter-club runs, as I understand it at this stage, a member of any QAFWDC affiliated club may attend our night runs, on the proviso that our run has been advertised in the attending club's previous magazine, AND has also been discussed at that club's previous General Meeting.
But, because I have not had a chance to discuss this with anyone from the QAFWDC yet, we are holding off on allowing other club's just yet. I am going to the QAFWDC's President's meeting on Saturday afternoon, so I will try to get confirmation then. If everything is sweet with them, it will be all systems go for the March night run.
I'll keep you all posted guys.
Simmo.

****Update****
I went to the president's meeting yesterday at QAFWDC. Technically, we can allow non club member on our night runs as "visitors". The catch is, we can not charge any money. I know that sounds like the solution, to just not charge an entry fee, but we need to charge in order to recover the costs incurred for setting up the run. And, I feel it would be unfair to charge our members $5 to do the run (which there is no problem in us doing that, as it is not classed as revenue raising because it is kept within the club), but then let visitors do the run free of charge.
So, sorry guys, it remains at "members only" for our night runs. It is unfortunate, but that's just the litagative society we live in now, I guess.

bloody beaurocratic crud i would be more than happy to make a wink wink 5$ donation
We have thought of doing this, but it just gets too "grey". Because we can't actually force anyone to make the donation, it leaves it open for people to turn up and do the run for free.
While I recognise that in 26 years of the club's history, we have never once had an incident even looking like turning legal on us, I think it is something we need to "cover our arses" on these days.
If we try "force" people to make a "donation", and that info got into the hands of a solicitor, they would have a field day.
I'm sorry guys, we have dead-set explored every avenue on this subject, and there just aren't any ways around it. Basically, we need to charge an entry fee to recover costs incurred while setting the run up, but we can't charge anyone that is not a member of our club. So, unfortunately, that means no visitors on our night runs. It's bloody wrong, and it's the biggest load of red tape B.S I've heard of, but we can't do anything about it.
