have just brought 89 r\r fuel inj it is a bit tappy have been told cam and liffters are 1000km old but holden liffters where put in have been told with inj must run rover liffters diff seat in liffters for rods also no oil hole told holden liffters will keep valves open a little bit will make car gutless and use heaps of fuel is this true please help my 74 r\r with 4.4 would kill this in 3rd

holden liffters in inj motors do they work

I note on one of the camshaft sites that they say you can use Holden v8 lifters but must check the preload.
I assume from this that the length of the lifter may be a little shorter ( or longer) than a Rangie V8 one.
if so , and someone has not checked the preload you may not have enough, ie 20 thou. If that is the case you have to mill some material off the bases of the rocker pillars.
Its a bugger to do now, but if you want it quiet, you may have to strip down so that you can see the lifters and check the preload. look at the RPI site to see how.

I agree with PhilipA about the preload also did they have the heads off when the cam was done? If so did they use composite gaskets as this effects the required push rod length and as Philip said you may need to machine your rocker posts. Setting preload can be a bit tricky but worth the effort. Holden lifters are the only lifters I have ever had probs with and I would never use them again they bleed down to easily IMO the oiler hole should make no difference because of the solid pushrod but you preload must be right and a little more is better than a little less.

Dont use holden lifters, I know they are cheaper but they just don't work in Rover engines.

thanks for all your help i will check out site to see what they say about liffters also ive noted that airflow and other screws are that had paint on them have been tampered with thrbody setting has been changed so might have to take it to someone who knows more than me to fix once liffters are sorted
