I'm after some shocking advice!!
I'm after some shocking advice!!
Hi all,
I am after a bit of shocker or shocking advise please. I have a GU Ti and will be puting in a set of King Spring heavy duty 2" lifted springs soon and have been tossing up (not off) whether to go for Rancho 9000 or Tough dogs.
Can any one advise which of these combo's is likely to work best. I am probably leaning slightly towards the doggies at present.
Other than a steel winch bar the patrol is fairly stock at present (No winch). It is mostly used for round town crap but I am planning to do a bit more touring in the future, hench the suspension upgrade.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I have noticed that nothing I never said ever did me harm
I read off this site that a person had Ranchos fail. And when they went back for warranty, the shock that they reccomend was the right shock for the application but there need to be 4 shocks total up front not 2.
I personal think the adjustable shocks are abit of a wank. Find a shock valved right, right from the start. I have had a good run out of konis (200 000km) and my front ones will be kept. As for the rear I broke them due to brakeing other stuff and bending the shaft.
Estimated cost as most shops varie abit. And I havnt priced for awhile.
Konis cost about $260each ($60-70 rebuild)
OME Nitro's $130
Dobbinson $125

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
I'm fairly impressed with my Dobinsons shockies.

Adjustable is good until they start to leak or blow seals then they're useless...
Then again so is any other shock.
Adjustable is also useless if the range is not suited to the actual operating weight of the vehicle....with all the crap you carry onboard. Then it would always be on max or min setting.

adjustables are good.....how much of a pain in the arse are the koni adjustables to adjust? I understand you have to pull them apart...is this right??
I have Koni adjustable. They have been adjusted once in 200000km.
Yes the shock does need to come off. Butt thats easy.
To adjust.
Extend shock
There is 2 holes in top of stone guard, stick a bit of wire in here (i used a coat hanger). And push out the rubber bump stop. It has a split in it so it can be removed from shaft.
Compress shaft all the way. And turn till it drops just alittle further.
Mark shock with pen/texta/or scratch on both body and stone guard
Then 1 full turn is each adjustment. Hard/MED/Soft.
On a SWB GQ, had recommended recently Hard on front and soft on rear.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
I took my koni's off the front of my GU ute the other day to put on my new Dobinson shockies and the koni's aren't the best any more. They don't extend by themselves. They've only been on the ute for 12 months and about 27000kms. Not impressed.
