V6 PETROL Vs TURBO DIESEL
Moderator: Moderators
I'd go the diesel any day, as good as my old V6 F'terra was the 3.0TD Jack is a massive improvment in offroad drivability.
09 Cruiser Tray ARB Bull Bar/side bars, dual batts, 3" Superiour lift, MTZs, other stuff. More to come!!!
90 Sierra Soft top, 3" body 2" spring lift, 31" Claws, 5.14 Calmini, more to do.

Give both examples a good drive around. You may find one is more suited to your driving style then the other. I have heared that the 3.0td in the Rodeo can be a bit peaky in power delivery. But the V6 will definatily be peaky. I havn't driven the diesel Rodeo. See if the dealer has a demo vehicle so you can have it longer then a 10 min drive around town. Preasure him, he does want to sell you a car after all.

if you mean the RA rodeo, then go the diesel, the 3.5v6 in them is a strange mix of components, very different to the fantastic jackaroov6.
i had a RA v6 auto work ute and i could not believe what a slug it was, so slow compared to the previous rodeo i had and my jack, seemed to have no torque, and chewed fuel at a stupid rate, running empty driving like granny it gave 15/100, about 300kg on board 17-18/100 and once i had a tubular steel frame sitting about a foot higher than the roof going melb - adelaide sitting on 100 cruise control on it gave 28-32/100 I KID YOU NOT... what a heap of crap, very dissapointed in the whole vehicle.

Hi all,
Ive got the V6 model and in terms of fuel effecieny I get about 12L to 100km, thats with two roof racks and a ladder rack mounted with an alloy frame for my rowing boat sitting on top of those racks which is 1.5 foot high from the racks.
Per tank i'm getting around 470km and about half of my driving is through the city and the other half is highway.
Not sure what bradley was saying bout it being sluggish unless thats just the auto model, mines a manual and certainly isnt sluggish by any means.
I had a test drive of both models when I was looking at the rodeos and the petrol model was heaps better on road. My model is only a 2wd but ive had it up at landcruiser mountin park on some of the more tame 4wd track and was fine, no lack of torque or anything for that matter.
My suggestion is if most of your driving is going to be onroad then go the petrol otherwise if youre offroad more than on go the diesel.

as i said, i had a v6 twincab 3.2v6 auto previously and it was a rocketship, it would light em up at the drop of a hat and was pretty good on fuel, could be loaded up to buggery and loved it,, SO thats why i couldnt believe how bad this RA was, there was no easy explanation for it, the ecu was searching for lambda while cruising etc. it just drank heaps of juice but was so gutless it wasnt funny. that one trip to SA it took me 4 fills to get there, ridiculous. Flat out it would only do about 150-160 whereas the previous one would be on the limiter at 180 with heaps of go left. i put some down to worse aerodynamics, but was at a loss to the rest.
Im glad yours returns some good figures, i hoped they all wernt that bad.

Guys,
Whats the prob with top speed when Mr Plod is hiding around every corner, top speed is one thing but the ability to get to it quickly is another. (Wont be long and double demerits are an every day event)
I am a meek miled manered 2.8 diesel owner that gets probaly 500K out of a 62Lt tank (probably more as I never seem to get the low fuel level light on). I get the same fuel economy out of my TF as my wife does out of her Suberu Outback so I cannot complain (just not as comfortable)
Ultimately it comes down to how one drives the thing. If I keep my diesel at 3K rpm or less I get great economy but over that it starts to drop. From a speed perspective I was hitting 120K down the freeway and passing heaps of other vehicles.... what can I say... a diesel may not break any speed records, and it may be a bit noisier but after 300,000km it is just run in, the petrol on the other hand is due for a rebuild.
So bottom line, ifyou want good acceleration and very comfortable crusing go petrol V6. If you want low end tourqe, pulling power to boot and an engine that is going to last you years on end, go diesel.
If you are not anal re regular servicing and do not want to change oil every 5000Km go petrol.. then again you may be going places where diesel is abundant and unleaded is a rarity.. go diesel!!
As with anything it is a religous argument!! There are bloody good points for both, just have to way up the pros and cons for you partucular use.
Cheers
