alright, i have a 24V MQ patrol, and am having a few issues with battries going flat,
now, i have just been out side, to turn her over, battrys were flat but had enough to turn over the motor a couple of time, problem is, one the key was turned off, it kept turning over, does this mean the soleniod is sticky?
i dont run any accesories, there is a 12v sterewo in there, but i will turf this, plus it doesnt seem to work anyways,
also with the battry connections i believe they are
Left battry - earth, then + lead connects to other battried - then the positive to the starter, sound right?

The battery connections are right. I'd get an auto electrician to check out A) the starter motor as a faulty starter motor can cause these symptoms, especially when you say it is playing up anyway,
And B) the alternator, because a faulty alternator can discharge the batteries, often intermittently. Check out a couple of the other threads on here regarding similar issues!

if its not turning off when you turn key off it may be the the motor that cuts the fuel off to engine on the pump i hope that made sense there is a very good thread about it in nissan section but i cant find it the search thing above never works for me so someone my be able to help out

okay, i should have been a bit more specific, i havnt driven it since november, i pulled down the old starter motor, and bound the brushed had welded them selves to the stator, so i put a second hand starter motor in,
The battries are nearly dead, just enough power to crank the motor over slowly, not enough power to fire it up,
when i turn the key on, the kicks over slowly, when i turn the key off it keeps kicking over slowly,
i changed the solenoid on the starter, still does the same thing,
i do know about the fuel cut off problem, and it does have a lever to cut out fuel, i wish it was this simple, as id only have to pull it,
now, my thoughts at thre moments are.................................................
there must me an ignition relay/module somewhere, if the contacts are welding shut on start up, this may be why it keeps turning over with the key off,
i will explore the above avenue 2morrow and post my results.

My (educated) guess since this is the case is that it is your key switch! It would be highly unlikely to have a starter relay, as this is what the solenoid is.
Try taking your ignition key switch out and cleaning the contacts with CO Contact cleaner or similar, available cheapest at electrical wholesalers. Note that CRC or RP7 or similar can make the problem worse as they leave a film behind that can become conductive where you don't want it.
Short of that you may need to replace the lock/switch mechanism.

i've got the same problems in my 24v mq. well not the running flat part, but the not turning off part. someone above mentioned something about the fuel pump motor, ive been told something along the same lines but never had the time to check it out as of yet. let me know how ya get on, and i will too.

yes the starter motor keeps turning over, which casues the motor to also slowly turn over,
there is not quite enough power to actually start the engine, just enough, to turn it over,
i did try the contact cleaner through the ignition barrel, but its still doing it,
The contact cleaner down the barrel won't do much, except for cleaning the key contacts, which can't hurt. You need to take the steering column covers off, and get to the back of the lock barrel to where the electrical contacts are. Sorry I didn't make that a bit clearer! With the covers removed, you will be able to see where the cables run up to the key switch, give all the connectors a good spray and follow them up to where the actual switching contacts are. Disconnect the battery, and spray the contacts as you move the key through all the positions, several times. I won't guarantee that it will work, but it's worth a shot. Even if it does work, I would be expecting to replace the mechanism some time soon.
Another question for you, Does the starter crank as soon as the key goes through to the on position, or only after you turn it round to start? If it cranks as soon as you turn to the 'on' position, then one of the contacts has welded itself closed, and cleaning with spray won't help.
Is the Patrol petrol or diesel? If it is petrol, there could also be a couple of other explanations, post back and I'll let you know my thoughts!

it is actually a Diesel,
i have also changed the solenoid on the started motor with a spare one i had, so im guessing thats not the problem,
plus, another problem arose over the week end, i pulled all the stereo wiring out, and also there are 2 guages runnging 12v lights, so i pulled that wiring out, and now i have no accessories at all, but i will trace that this week

Okay, the problem is now solved,
I replaced my starter motor with one i grabbed off a mate, and was still doing the same thing,
now as you all know the Starter solenoid has 3 connections
1 - The starter solenoid, has the 3 connection, one is the ignition for the throw out,
2 - one is the 24V feed from batts,
3 - and the other links the solenoid to the Starter motor windings,
now, the problem was in the solenoid, the 24V terminal was loos and shorting out the inside, so it was always powering the starter motor, thus no needing the ignition feed,
well, im happy now, thanks for all the input fellas,
