Restraining GQ front coils

Has anyone done this? I want to tie them in top & bottom, rear coils are easy, but the front is a bastard to try and get something in there that isn't gonna intefere with the next wrap of the spring..
Ideas?

From what i understand it's not a good idea anyway. Something about the stretching of the spring affects the rates, could be wrong.
