Ultimate GQ set-up for Cape York
Firstly, how would you set up my GQ for the Cape later this year?
Secondly, what pre-trip truck service and checks would you carry out?
I have a 97 DX LWB wagon:
4 inch Dobinson coils
Milford Cargo barrier
40ltr engel
Dual batteries 1 x deep cycle
Factory Nissan winch bar (ARB replica)
9000 Lb low mount Warn winch
Long Ranger LR tank
285/75/16 BFG All Terrains
GU steel rims
GME UHF
Overhead Console
I want to add:
Roof rack
Second spare tyre/Rim
Possibly second LR tank under middle of truck
Maintanance I think I will do:
Replace all wheel bearings
Replace all Oils and fluids such as radiator, g-box, t-case, diffs
Overhaul winch (service it)
Replace all belts although they are new so I might just carry spares
Grease all uni joints, slip joints
Extend all diff breathers (T rear diff into gearbox. Extend front diff one and secure with screw type hose clamps)

I carry spare plug for the top radiator hose
Its the plastic plug to bleed air out of the system
And also a spare radiator drain tap because Ive had them both fail
when need most
Plus carry a spare winch cable screw ` the one which hold`s the cable to the drum
And take the grease gun with you

I run ProComp X9000 shocks or whatever they are on the front and currently have some EFS shocks in the rear.
I think I'd be leaning towards getting some more ProComps for the rear but.

I'll get some spare radiator hoses and drain plugs just in case. I've seen the plugs go brittle and fail before........
Have already run constant power to the rear cargo area for both my fridge and fouro lights etc.... It works really well.
I'm heading up there with a few mates.
My Patrol (Diesel)
97 Cruiser Ute (Diesel)
99 Hilux Dual Cab (Diesel)
Possibly one more but don't know what it is....

Yeah, I went out to Dalby on the weekend on the Friday night and I had to turn off my spot lights because I couldn't see sh1t!
The bugs were really bad and had to stop outside of Oakey to clean them from the windscreen.
I've done this a few times lately and now have to pull out my radiator to clean it cause it starts to heat up sometimes.
Might invest in one of those ARB fly screen radiator guards hey?

Make a radiator guard yourself... prob cost you about $10 in stuff from bunnings
EPIRB, Sat Phtone, UHF, First Aid Kit, Full Recovery and Tool Kit.. water tank.
Deck of cards... if your ever stuck, start paying solitaire, someone is bound to come along and tell you what card to move next!

haeps of aeroguard. just watch out for the dips, don't go flat out at night or you will need plenty of spare susp bushes. a 12 volt fan for when you go to sleep, mozzie net. rad hoses, fan belts, heaps of boose because you will pay heaps for slabs up there 12 guage to take out ferals. main hwy easy drive( seen a local make it through boggy section of hwy in a beaten up xd wagon while a 75 series and a gu patrol were bogged up to diffs on either side of the road!). if you want to have fun do the telegraph track in wet season! good way to cost you alot of money if you get stuck. heaps of fishing gear and a cast net. go to T.I for supplies, heaps cheaper
I think I'll replace the rear shocks with either matching ProComps as I have on the front or some Tough Dogs.
I'm yet to look into the Tough Dogs as to wether they are any good.
Anyone had any experience with these?
I figure that the larger volume of them would hold up well over the corrugations...........
