Your rusty MQ window frame solutions

Post by Justin_M »

Okay, i have the old rusty window frames as per usual and honestly, im trying to hardest to avoid buying new frames :p

My original plan was some plexiglass and just use H-rubber to hold it in the canopy, but after some thought and advice it appears the plastic might be too flimsy for that kind of span and could "pop out" on harsher trails. Has anyone gone this route?

Next option is real glass in there, i used to work for a glass company, think lami glass will cost me $50 a meter square, bit on the costly side.

Re-use the sliding glass, put it into the hole with H-rubber and use a strip of H rubber to join the 2 pieces of glass in the center. Im gonna need to actually take the frames out and see how small the glass is compared to the hole? Im sure someone will know how much smaller the glass is than the hole?

last option for me is to buy new frames, prices ive seen are 130+ a side, severly more expensive than the options above.

So what are your experiences and how did you guys fix the problem?

$130 is cheap as shit! Dude on GQ list stated it was SWB GQ complete are $1100.. GQ LWB are over $200EA.

I'd jump at $130, if they last another 20+ yrs, it works out less than $0.50 week dont it.

All of the canopy side windows on my rigs are in good to excelent condition, having said that one however is phardookered to the point where the glass is ready to fall out !

This particular canopy is a "spare part" only but in th event of the enevitable rollover opps thingy I'll need it !

I plan simply to replace the glass with flexiplex ( perspex ) and "H" rubber. A mate has done this and I must get around to snappin a couple of pics for future referance.

The original replacement parts @ $130 each is bloody good value I must admit ........ strange tho because the last time I cost them out the dealer quoted $370 each ... + fitting !...... name your outlet please !

Can you actually buy JUST the window frames??!! My panel beater said that you had to buy the frame and windows as the one unit.

Where do I get these frames from?

Peoples.... why go to all the hastle when I sell rust free ones I have around the joint for $200 a set - that is both sides... in fact the whole canopy is only a bit more with REAR and SIDE windows.... oh and I got perfect rears for a longy too if anyone wants em....

I find it easier to buy a truck with mates for a couople of parts and scrap the rest than to buy from wreckers who charge an arm and a leg, a reproductive organ and your first 3 kids for it...

Your call people.

If some one buys canopy is gona take em 20 mins max to change over...

EASY AS!

I've got an MK Wagon. The bloke down at Southern 4x4 in Melb. said that although a lot of the windows look the same, they're all different. SWB,LWB, MQ/MK, GQ etc etc.

Can you get just the frames for an MK wagon? My actual windows are perfect. Just need the frames.

What dollars do the frames cost? If they were cheap enough you'd just buy two new ones, wouldn't you???
