Rodeo models

In what year did the rodeo change from the square instrument cluster (with all the switchs up the side of the cluster) to the rounded intergrated swoopy shape instrument cluster that looks like a modern car?

Did this occur in the R7 model or the R9 model?

Are there any other difference between the models from early nineties to early 00's ?? (Apart from cosmetic changes)

I have a R7 manufactured in Jan 1998 with a March 98 compiance plate that is the newer look.

I Think 1998 may have been the start of the R7 and since most accessory listing seem to mark aug 1998 as a key date, I am guessing that this may have been when the R9 came out.

Oh, sorry forgot about the rest of the question.

I had actually asked Holden customer service about the differences re the r7 and R9 and I they answered .. "The Grill changed".

But What I have found, since a mate bought an r9 was the introduction of an electronic engine management system that I think sits between the floor and the dash on the drive shaft mound (in the diesel that is).

The grill did change with the one with the curved bottom (thus making a different bull bar needed, rear tailgate changed I think from leavers at each end to a single centre mounted catch.

The models earlir than 98 also had from what I can understand, shorter tortion bars and in the case of the ute, a shorter but wider tray.

All I can think of at the moment ;)

10/1994 is when the cluster changed. although in the petrol both have the same loom so you can swap dash boards. about the only other thing that chanced was the throttle body, from oval to round. the air flow from a clamp style to a screw on and the shifter housing on the box although the boxes are still interchangeable.

on the diesel r7-r9 they also change the t-case from a square flange front round flange rear to a slip in rear round front, also some have electronic speedo transducers.

so yes holden was right, they only changed the grill :roll: :roll:

that is true but it is more what option the customer bought, eg manual vs auto, diesel vs petrol etc. all rodeos r7+ have the slope grill and the late r9's all have the oval headlights. it also depends on what factory the car is made in.

that is true also but once again varies between factory's. all R9 s2 have the handle in the middle and white white red taillights as opposed to the orange white red (03/99 they changed of memory)

the tray thing is bullshit as all rodeos have the same wheelbase, although with the rounded guards they do look more "pumped". the only different torsion bars are in the v6 rodeos, but they also have different hubs and stubs, larger rotors and discs.

I don't know about the cutoffs for the R7 or R9 however I have an 8/1997 Rodeo. It has:
2.6L petrol 4cyl engine 4ZE1
The curved 1997-2003 shape and the curved dash and rest of interior.
Single centre tailgate release.
Front grille has flat bottom not the curved bottom of the 1998+ models.
Red, orange, white tail lights and all orange indicators.

I have seen the two touch tailgate on later models than mine so they must have been made along side each other. I think the 2.6 petrol left the 4x4 range in about March 1998 replaced by the 3.2 V6.

So to answer your original question I am fairly sure the body and interior styles changed between 1996/97. I am sure I saw a start date for the newer shape as 1/1997. The shape changed again in 3/2003 to current shape.
The biggest change (apart from cosmetic) was probably from 2.6 4 cyl petrol to 3.2 V6. Not sure when the t/diesel changed to the 3 litre intercooled motor.
Another cosmetic change was that you can get LT or LT Sport and not just LX models. The LTs having alloy wheels, carpet, fancy paint and electrics etc.

TF Jan 1993 - October 1995,
TF G6 November 1995 - December 1996,
R7 January 1997 - May 1998
R9 June 1998 - June 2001

So which model had the square desh & which had the newer rounded car like dash??

Also are the diesels an electronic fuel pump or a mechanical one?

According to what you have just written from RedBook, the R7 has the rounded dash. Like I said above mine is a 8/97 model and it has the rounded dash.

The rounded dash came along with the 1997 body shape change that had the rounded wheel arches. This shape with the rounded dash was built from 1/97 to 3/03.

As for the diesel pump I don't know.
