Extra Fuel...Ideas
doing a 2month trip soon, and a part of that wil be the canning stock route, we need to up our fuel carrying capacity
driving a GU patrol cab chassis 4.2TD and we already have 170L on board, but we would ideally like another 80L to be safe
after suggestions on how to store more fuel, one suggestion so far is to have tool boxes on the side of the tray that are actually tanks, 2 for fuel in front of the wheels and 2 for for water behind the wheels
any other ideas??? or anyone know of particular custom tanks etc???

Depending on the tray style, use a tank that sits between the chassis rails under the tray.
Or depending on room etc, a tank across the front of the tray, like plant equipment drivers have.

yeah thought of that, except we've already got a triple oddysey battery set-up, cab pressurizer, air-tank, gas bottle, spare wheel, and a 60l water tank (soon to be replaced with 100l, so space is at a premium under there
and we've just ordered one of those new ARB roof racks for a spare tyre carcass on top of the cab, so we thinking we may just have to put some jerry cans up top, cause on the tray we've got a camper body so no room on that either, thats why we liked the idea of side tanks maybe

yeah it is getting a bit worrying actually, we're getting out of town to whack in some poly-airs and all new suspension on wednesday. but we're still guestimating 3.5t all up,
only a tad higher than normal

i know its probly not the best idea(and ur probly already thought about it) but its simple and effective
2 or 3 20ltr jerrycans. should do the job. should be able to get them for $35ish each
carnt really think of anythin else than other than wot u have said:)

i supose you have to add up weather the extra weight of the fuel is going to make your economy so bad that youd be better off without it.....
does ARB do a larger tank for them, do you really need that much fuel. what sort of fuel economy do you expect, i figure youll probably get about 1000 kms out of your tanks already. is it really that far between srvos out there?? ive never been
sounds like your gonna have fun though

i reckon you would be better of getting long range main tank
and ask to speak or see if u can find pics of roly ute cause he has a custom water tank in his

When you have it at Out of Town find out if they make a Long Ranger tank for it.
wtf is an acronym

just got back from out of town this morning, asked ric (the tank man) and they do make one, but with where the spare wheel is underneath their LRA tank wont fit anymore....bugger , and they can custom make one, but not in time before we go on 1st april.....double bugger
we currently have 170l, which gives us a range of anywhere between 1000-1200km on highway and about 700km off road, problem is due to the rarity of fuel where we're going we need a range of 1200km in off raod conditions, so we're about 500km short....not good
