Extractors - 4.2 Diesel
Extractors - 4.2 Diesel
Hoping anyone could give me a lead as to brands of extractors that would fit onto my '92 Maverick 4.2 diesel. What size exhaust system would be OK to use with extractors...........I was thinking 2-1/2" and a flow thru muffler. Any info back would be absolutly helpful.

a fuel people have talked about this
most people have said save your money for a turbo as the extractors and exhaust dont do much at all expcept sound.
however saying that i havent driven one with extractors and exhaust to tell..
if u do go donw that line i reckon 2.5" exhaust would be enough and brand of extractors not sure... but you wouldnt want to go any more in terms of exhaust size

I put extractors on mine and a (2.5) last monday... bought system second hand on ol and cost $250...which i thought was pretty bloody cheap and bought another set for a mate $150 ......
Of course no earthshattering power difference....i have noticed its pushing the 35s with a bit more ease now and will hold revs a little more on hills where i would have been into 2nd it can now hold 3rd........
one of those things but 2nd hand can make it an option and you can always get ya $$$$ back when the whistle comes.......

I've found with extractors and a 2 1/2 exhaust they make it breathe a heap better, sounds healthier when at higher revs, hasnt really made a heap more power but it does cruise nicer...plus it does have a bling sound

Yup, I'll third that.. and TB sittin here 4ths that..
Extractors do sweet nanny adams but as said if your zaust is fucked, then why not. but at around $800 for a complete mandral bend with extractors ($400ish), its a fair wack of bucks for nothing.
Yer! I would get it turboed only I havn`t got the $$$$ for it. As some have said I know extractors wont make it go rocket style, but it will hold rev range better on hills. This is where it would count for me, and yep I know a turbo would do it better.
Thanks for the ifo people.

costing me $540 fitted with lukey extractors and a brand new 2.5" exhaust on tuesday
I've got Pacemakers and a 2.5' and its good. Like Sirollsalot says, it breathes alot better.
Further to this end, remove the pre cleaner, either just the filter cartridge or the whole box. This will let the engine breathe alot better. Don't worry about removing it too much, most aftermarket turbo kits remove it as a matter of course to help with breathing.

Back from exhaust shop
The extractors LOOK awesome, and it was a fully stainless steel exhaust for $540, I was expecting mild steel.
Overall, I cannot tell the difference with or without the extractors. Like I said before, unless you need to replace the manifolds/exhaust don't bother with extractors, they make near fark all difference.
Turbo/supercharger or a completely different engine would be better.
That said, my standard manifold was a peice of shit, the exhaust/muffler was falling to bits & the previous owner had snapped studs off the block, so it was worth my hassle getting a new exhaust/studs fixed - and it should last me many years of trouble free operation.
