80 series exhaust
Does the resonator under the driver's door do anything? I'm suspecting a blocked exhaust due to loss of power on hills. I've heard varying reports from being empty to clagging up with soot, so thinking of replacing it with a section of pipe. The main muffler is a straight through job < 6 months old, wondering if the exhaust might become too loud without something in its place

Are you talking diesel or petrol??
if petrol remove the last resonator before the rear bumper, more power and not much noise difference, just a tone change but all good..
If diesel like mine, 1HZ, I'm not sure what diff would make without it... but then you'd only have 1 muffler in the whole system so i think lotsa noise..

Yeah, 1HZ diesel. It's a bit noisy now, so may have to replace it. It's suffered a gradual decrease in pulling power, but got bad in the last 2 weeks to the point of down shifting on a hill it would pull top gear in.
Hopefully nothing serious engine/fuel wise - it went like a train after a Berrima tune-up last year.

Ummm besides the exit of gases, what about the inflow of fresh air??? have you checked that side out? or what about a bad fuel filter?
You could be right about the exhaust I dunno, just thinking if its anything else causing it...

Check the air cleaner. if you have a snorkel - check that. also change the oil. once you get past the 5000km oil change mark the 1hz really starts hating you. Make sure you do all the filters!! You'd be surprised how much difference clan oil makes to a coal burner!
Also - get rid of the soot box - noise is no issue except without a muffler at all(did for 2 weeks - my ears are still ringing 18 months later!)

Hi The front and rear mufflers are straight through....it is usually the ctr one that does the restricting.....if its been replaced, it should all be good....when you cane it does it give off the pressure trying to get out sound?? if not, it could be something as simple as bad diesel....put some algai treatment through and if your filter blocks it is that that is the problem....you can change it now and if it goes better, cut it open and look for sludge on the bottom that is algai.

This is on a petrol though.
Will let you know how that goes.
Dude, Extractors from the 105 series run down the inside rail.
Also the first resonator is not needed, I originally thought it was a CAT.
Replaced the Big ass muffler with a straight through and the bloody thing sounded like a F1 at full throttle, cept it wasn't going no where. So had to compromise. Even now it's pretty loud at full song.
Bloody petrols... Needs a turbo to shut it up!

Yikes guys - I'd hate to know what mine sounds like fom behind...***PHAT****
I'ts a 2.5 form the flexi - no extarctors and has only a 14" little muffler where the big thing used to be so I have back pressure. I know of a bloke that only ran a hot dog at the back with extratcors and swore by it.
You have to comepromise either noise for grunt... I have a huge low-mid range and the top end is strong as well. I have tuned the fuel up to cater so as long as you match you are in business.
As for Algae - get into your tanks and remove your pickup - if they are brown - you have poo in your tank - CAT sell bottles of stuff that kills it and then you use conditioner for your tanks for about 1000k... Been there suffered that!
