Hi,
Can someone give me some info on these diffs?
So far I know:
They are based on a dana60
Some parts are interchangeable with a 60 - what exactly?
6 stud wheel bolt pattern - very big bolts apparently
5.58 ratios
Will take an ARB locker if you get modified side gears
Drum brakes all round
Anyone know the width of them from WMS to WMS?
Any other lockers available?
Is a disc conversion possible?
Any other upgrades?

I would guess that the crown and pinion are the same with a d60 as will be the bearings.
fc101 spline count is very course.
Maxi drive does a fair bit with them incl disc conversion,studpattern conversion, lockers, axles etc as they use them in their rear steer modification. So it would be best to contact them.
What do you want to do with them cause this would be an expensive excercise and there are better axles around.

Im using a salsbury rear with Maxidrive in my Disco
Seems to be holding up to the abuse well.
Only problem is ground clearance under the diff. You need bigger tyres to get the same under diff clearance
I had heaps of ratios availiable to me ie D60. Im using 4.11 out of a Jeep??? and disco outers ( maxidrive converted for D brake etc)
Can recommed the Maxi if you are going to run big tyres and horsepower

Why not just modify the Rover axle and run 36"s with a lot of clearance.
The trend around the world (I am not a trend seeker though) is to go with just the right size of axle and the biggest tires possible. I.e., Dana 44s are replacing the bigger 60s for <36" tires, or shaving the diff housing for clearance.
The whole reason for bigger tires is clearance, so it may be a better idea to go with the smallest axle you can do with up until you need bigger ones. When do you need these bigger ones? You'll Know!

Agreed and I already have a dana 44 rear and dana 30 front.
I also have 36's and am looking to go bigger in the future and the dana 30 front will not hold up at all. Dana 44 might but that is also touch and go.
Dana 44 HP front, would be ok with 38's, but the ball joints and prone to failure and it is only using the same uni's as the dana 30.
If I am doing a swap it will only be the once.
Dana60 or stronger and no compromises

Dana 60s seem to be what is in your future, I have heard that the Salisburies are a cheap/bad copy of them, so might as well go Dana. I have seen first hand how easy it is to shave 2-3 cm off of the pumpkin...

Dana 60 with 35 spline axles is stronger than the Salisbury with 24 spline axles used in Rover 110. The 2 gear carrier in Salisbury and non-hypoid ring and pinion are other weaknesses. I don't know much about differences with 101 Salisbury.
The drain plug in bottom of pumpkin results in loss of ground clearance compared to D60.
ARB carrier is much stronger than stock Salisbury. Coil sprung Salisbury has largest disk brakes of any Rover.

zzzz tell your mate I would be interested if the price was a bit lower, maybe 2k. Where is he/the axles located.
IMHO the salisbury/Dana 60 diffs are goos and very strong, even with 24 spline axles. I have a Salisbury in the back of my IIA - see avatar. I have welded up the drain plug, ground about 15mm from the lowest point of the pumpkin and clearenced and strengthened the rear cover - also added drain plug. This is still not as good as a std rover diff but almost the same as a stock low pinion D44. And it also runs an MD locker. I broke an axle before I fitted the locker and MD axles, but it was a cheapo non genuine axle and very weak.
