6hp motor on 10000lb ?
Has anyone done it? Did it work well?
alot of poeple are doing this
its an actual upgrade from ateco so i have been told
you can even do a 8000 high mount with 6hp motor.
the motor had a lot more power and hence doestn work as hard and can work for longer before heating up.
worth the extra 5-$600 in the winch upgrade

What mods do u need to do to fit it though? Is it a direct bolt up?
I did the mod to my 10,000 WARN low mount about 12 months ago. Compared to my old 2.5hp motor it pulled harder but also cooler. We had a vehicle recovery day a while ago. Basicaly I spent the day winching wrecks out of the scrub onto trailers. During one long winch of a commo up a steep hill, I thought the winch would need a cool down. On inspection it was only just warm, very different to the old 2.5 motor!
I hve just fitted this same 6hp motor to my new high mount, tested on the weekend and I am realy happy - It pulls like a 16 year old on prom night
Yes, it does bolt on with no mods to the winch required, but, its alot longer then the old motor so you will have to check it will fit in your bar.
Now the free plug. I can get you these motors if you wish, $560 each, and fit if required.
Call me 03 59954325 or send a pm if interested.

Yep
But be aware, it pulls harder and cooler but not faster under no load so it does not transform your low mount into a highmount. But is does meant you wont be needing a snatch block as often .
One other thing, be carefull of what your winch cable can handle! On my 10,000 I had the heavy duty cable that they fit to the 12,000 and 15,000 winches so it could handle the extra pulling power. If you fit it to a winch that the cable is already near max capacity, you may end up breaking cables.

As stated by Bundyrum, be careful that you do not turn your 9,000lb winch into a 11,000lb winch and your cable brakes. You should check the gearing in your current winch to that of new Warn winches with the 6hp motor to determine what it might be transformed into. There are virtually no bull bars designed for the 6HP motor size. Had to move my mounts amount 30mm across to get it to fit, but I did have plenty of clearance for the old winch. The measurements for the motor are on www.warn.com

Where your free spool pull out knob is. Pull it out and then undo all three bolts. Be very carefull when you pull it of not to drop the key way into the internals. That is what has to be modified. Ring MMM after the weekend and he can price you on the conversion or parts for the conversion.

From what I heard the 4.6 motor wasnt a good motor to start off. Rumour was some competitors went back to the 2.5hp motor as it worked better.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
