Did think about keeping the Air conditioning for the LJ but I thought may be a little bit to much.
Will post some pics as work progresses. Still haven't fitted the steering yet as I am still waiting for my diffs to be done by my mate. I have been working way too much lately to be able to do it myself. I still haven't picked up my LJ20 yet either. Still sitting in a paddock miles away. My holidays got cancelled because of the work load at the moment so I don't know when I will pick it up.
Also thinking of selling the LJ50 restoration project too. Have nowhere to put it and the LJ20 will take a bit to fix.
Some cool tech so I cut and paste'd it.

suggestion/beer theory.....
1. take a 1.3 SWB/NT chassis (with wide track diffs, using th NT spring spacing)
2. grab a LJ body (prefferably one which you have no emotional ties with so you don't feel bad about butchering the trans tunnel, and firewall).
3. grab a welder, a grinder with some cut-off wheels, a 10mm drill, some bits of 100x50x4 RHS (to be welded to chassis for body mounts)
4. organise a BBQ with some friends (prefferably ones who are competent with the above tools) and arrange to put the 'butchered' body on the chassis
5. feel good about life, and have a go.....

Drewfus You have some good idea’s. Though it’s most probably not the way I want to go. I would prefer to stay away from a zook chassis. I don’t really want a 1.3 either as it goes to far away from what it was originally. What I want to achieve is a retro LJ with a modern running gear. This engine for example is perfect for retro wheeling. It’s still really small but is fully pimp.
Call me dumb but I want to be a traditionalist, a bit different from the norm, and lastly build by this saying “build it small drive it bigâ€

Keeping the rig low is the key to making the small wheelbase ,track work for you ,
Running the little beedlocks +
JMO the biggest single mod for a TRack Wheelbase of this size
"Approach angle" Make this the area perfect , use coils or whatever
Move the diff foward a touch so as with your 31s you can drive a wall,
IMO the tire size is not so great a problem ,you just need to get them to the obsticle uninhibited.
So many "LOW" rigs don,t pay attention to this piont, They are the ones that would benifit the most from it ,
There are some Black art tricks to diff gearing ect ( clue somthing with carry vans ) .
Looking foward to see this build up!

Yeah Dozoor I’m fairly aware of the approach angle that is what give the initial idea for coils up front.
As for the GTI motor conversion, it would be great and very suitable for my application because to a degree I want to do some duning. The motor’s rev’s are not a problem as this will keep it going up the hills. One thing putting me off this idea is this comment from a thread in suzishop forum

Looks like I have a lot to think about. Something that is looking interesting is the g13bb. I have already asked Drew to have a look for one when he is Japan.

Member this is going to be a dune rig, so simex are way off what I want. I would go SPOA but the size of the motor and gearbox means i need a BL. would be way to high with both.

Yeah man I am liking it. But 33's are a bit much for an old man like myself. he's having a few issues with driveshaft vibration.....no wonder with that pinion angle

hey dewse i was goin to go down this path, i have a gti motor sittin at home in the shed, these motors arent made any more and it could be hard to find half cuts, also i needed a coil pack and ignitor, new these 2 were goin to cost me $1000 so i didnt bother, also ur gointo have to rev it hard all the time regardless of gearing ( i ve done my homework on this and spoken to sam about it).so in the end im not goin to do this conversion.
some guy's are using 1600cc suzuki belano engines in jimny's, so have you looked at using an igness engine or somthing equally as new?[/quote]
