Sump Sealant

I know i posted this before but i'll be buggered if i can find the post. It's now time to put some sealant on the sump and i dont know what brand to use. I need something with a good name cause i can't afford to pull out the motor any more?????

Do it once and do it right.

Its called "RIGHT STUFF" it is more of a urethain than a silicon. Dont use a gaskit just lay a bead of this all the way around and then bolt the sump on. I have bent plenty of sumps removing them after using this.

Sounds like a bit of overkill, considering the sump is not under any real oil pressure.

Just use a general silicone gasket formulation for oil/sumps, clean all the mating surfaces well. Alternatively, buy the correct rubber gasket, and just use a small bead in the gaps between the front and rear crank seal retainers and the block. Any auto store will have this stuff on the shelf, if unsure just ask.

I've even used Dow corning 732 silicone (more of an industrial silicone sealant) in teh past - motors, gearboxes, diffs - never a leak.

Loctite Master Gasket 515 - be careful using any type of silicone as some will ruin your oxy sensor (even if used on something like the sump!)

Just got a big tube of ThreeBond 1207C for free. It says read the instructions first but of course they're all in another language because it's a bulk tube thats not for retail sale. Does anyone know drying time and aplication tips????

When I had the Feroza, the dude that overhauled the gearbox used what I think was RTV blue on pretty much everything that required sealing. I kept it for another 2 years after that with no problems of leakage.

Ultra blue silicon I think they call it blue max now we use it all the time.

Catapillar sealant. Ther are various different types suited to all applications. The best Ive used so far.

An engine backfire ( specially LPG fed ) will blow a sump gasket very easily. I've actually blown one so hard it bulged the actual pan!

I'll go with Ruff on this one !
