Basically, we need to charge an entry fee to recover costs incurred while setting the run up, but we can't charge anyone that is not a member of our club. So, unfortunately, that means no visitors on our night runs. It's bloody wrong, and it's the biggest load of red tape B.S I've heard of, but we can't do anything about it.
Sorry guys.

Wrong, you have already done what you need to, Forms available at starting point to join the club, I am guessing there is a small fee, but what a price to pay for some four-wheel-driving fun...

What do you mean? Make everyone pay extra membership? That won't resolve anything. Or, do you mean do a "1 night membership" type thing? If so, trouble with that is, we still need to charge the $11 association fee plus whatever to join. It's just not feasable.

I think the implication was that by providing the means for people to join immediately before the night run commences then you are already giving "visitors" the chance to take part, they just won't be a visitor by the time they start, or the next time after that :)

You would need to check your rules for membership on joining, as they would most likely have to do a trips graded as easy/medium no harder, sounds like you need to set up some by-laws to cover this situation. Will send you ours if it helps

just make it free ;)

have a bbq after to raise money, sell drinks!

If you only need enough money to cover cost, how much are costs? what do you regard as costs? fuel? $50 ?

Got a message from Wes today and this will now be a Tag allong rather than the usuall night run. Should still be good and the rating hasn't changed. Make sure you have your recovery points and your own Snatch strap. And a UHF would come in real handy too.

Ok guys, all good points. Unfortunately, there are down sides as well.

It's not as easy as just saying "we'll do free night runs". This was trialled a few years ago. The biggest problem was, we went from having between 15 and 25 cars turn up for the run, to having about 80-90 cars turn up. The trouble then is, for those that have been on a Logan night run know, the waiting times at checkpoints can be bad enough with 15 cars, let alone 90. It'd turn a simple night run into a weekend-long epic.

We don't have any rules saying you must attend an easy-medium run before joining. We run a social club, not the australian opera society. We don't want to have a list of prerequisites to meet before people are "allowed" to join.

Steve (striped tomato), I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up. That DOES make sense.

I would assume he may not have enough people for check points.

Should still be good either way.

Basicaly he had very little offers of help on Check points so rather than not running the Night run he has decided to run it as a Tag Allong. It will still be a great night.

I would usually give him a hand on any night run he is running however i have to be in Toowoomba by 6AM Sat morning and then i have to leave for Rover Park at 4AM Sunday morning to start organising the first Round of the WEROC Australia Rock crawling series.

I have decided to turn this into a tag-a-long. I have been out tonite and it should make for an eventful nite. If it rains like it has been now it will make things very interesting. Make sure that you have recovery equipment for the nite. The rating is still the same but please bring recovery gear.

There will be, hopefully a BBQ at the end of the run. Weather permitting.

Yeah, I ended up taking my heap out. (For once!!)

From memory, 12 or so starters. The run was quite good. The only damage that I know of, was a popped tyre and bent rim on an 80 series. I actually got out of it quite well. Only bent one of the bling-bling mudflaps, and put some new "scars" on the sills and the side of the tray. I bailed at about midnight, but I was told it wound up not long after I left.

The trip home wasn't great. Recieved an "on-the-fly" warning from the local constablatory. He just told me to get my tail lights fixed. Thank god for relaxed coppers. He could have went to town on the truck if he wanted to.

Good run. Top job Wes. :P

Oh, well, I think the run kinda turned more of a medium to medium/hard night by the time we got going. All capable cars, so we decided to play on a few harder tracks than were planned.
