Swaysbars HJ60

Hi Guys...

Have heard a lot about the benefits and restrictions of swaybars. Just wondering... I have just bought an 84 HJ60 and wondering if and where the sway bars are installed on the front. I think i know, cuz there are some linkages on the front that appear to do nothing other than restrict the travel of my front springs (keep my steady on the road, whateva)

Any advice from you blokes that own mighty a 60series?

The swaybars are located on the front of the axle tubes, you maybe able to see it on this pic

Its running across in front of the diff just below the steering arms.
I take mine off if im going out for a day or more but if less that a day i don't bother,
Dose make a little differance off road but also makes a fair bit of differance on road. Only prob is you don't notice the differance on road till you put them back on

I have taken my stabilisers off my 60 completely, as my truck is more for offroad use.

You will notice the difference on road if you disconnect them. More body roll, more noticeable wandering on off camber roads etc....

Upside is you will get more flex out of your suspension offroad. Its personal preference really. If you can be bothered to disconnect them when you go offroad, thats the best case scenario. As I am offroad more than on, i can live without the hassle of having to disconnect them all the time.

just take it off and after a week of driving you will forget what it was like to have them on, but will notice the benefit offroad. My 60 still handles like a race car without them on its all good

Only prob i have with leaving them off is iinsurance, other wise i would leave them off all the time.

Just a couple of quick updates... Do 60's normally have swaybars on the rear, cuz it looks as though it had one, but has been taken off.

Secondly... i have the adjustable rancho shocks all around, so was wondering if taking the sway bar off the front, then winding up the ranchos on the front, would this compensate for the lack of a frontal swaybar. After driving last night up the bush, extra flex, any flex will be very welcome.

...and besides, i dont drive my 60 any faster than about 90kmph on the road anyways, so no need to be heaps stable...

60 series produced 85 and on have rear swaybars.

only late model G-pac 60's had sway bar in the rear .
all 60's had them in the front .
i took mine out and it rides good .....
mine has ploy-air bag in the rear that stops it from swaying .

mine is an 84 model & it has a rear sawybar. don't know if it was an option or not but

The changeover was late 84, early 85 I think. Not sure on exact dates and not sure if it was an option.
