Muddies on rear with AT's on front

Was told that having different wheels on front to back can cause probs and damage when off road in 4 wheel drive, is this true or not??
As got a pair of partially used muddies and was thinking of puting them on the rear end of the rig.

if there the same size shouldnt matter. Just as long as left and right are the same. But then again I drove around for ages with a BFG mud on one side and a Cooper STT on the other (this was the front). But all tryes where the same size.

yea its more size than pattern.. and same with left to right on rear with LSD with size differences.. or so Im told.

They are all 31's, so by the sounds of it I can put the muddies on the rear when heading off road.

You're only supposed to engage 4x4 when on surfaces which allow slip between front and rear anyway so it shouldn't matter so long as they are close in size.

Think about running the muddies on the front for road use

The grip should be less so you'll feel it through the steering wheel, adjust your cornering speeds accordingly. With muddies on the rear, you just might have a tail happy vehicle if you hit a corner too fast.

All depends on what tires they are.

well the all terrains have been BFgoodrich all terrains, desert duelers and some other one with a similar pattern to BFgoodrich.

the muddies include hankook muds, bfgoodrich muds, and some cheap 50 dollar retread muds.

with all terrains on my 40 always aquaplains through intersections.

as for the original post, do it, it should be ok.

i ran an a new all terrain on the same axle as an old retread mud for months, that i don't advise

Makes it more than just something told by one person, and seeing you guys have been wheeling for a while I'll take your addy over one persons who has only had a 4by once.
