Roof lIghts

Post by RN »

they won't be legal in the land of Bracks as they won't comply with the ADR's.. Height of the lights and possible glare on the bonnet affecting your forward vision.

if you insist make them removable so the wallaphers can't pull you over and insert a canary on your screen. I am assuming that your vehicle is a road registered vehicle of course.

I put the lights on the roof rack and run the wiring in an enclosed loom down the gutter and into the bonnet space via the gap at the corner of the bonnet. Use the windscreen wiper panel and feed the wires through beside each other, havent had a problem in 2 years , just dont turn them on in suburbia. no holes in roof but make sure their back about 30cm to 40cm or the bonnet will light up and drive ya nuts

Roof Lights

Post by RN »

Sorry to spoil your party but, I wanted to fit extra lights but the mere fitting of the lights on the roof is against the ADR's ....makes no differance if they are operating or not...If you only need them in the bush why not make them removable.... Also they are so obvious, they are going to attract attention like flies to road kill. Once the 'man' starts looking at your rig they won't stop until they have filled a couple of defect lines.
Don't make it so easy for them.

R U SURE? I think it depends if where you live, I know that the bull bars are getting attention here at monent, in media etc, In NSW anything fwd. of the actual bar is a defect/fine. Since they failed in Syd to ban bars this is the next step. Anyway, all you have to do is make a phone call to the RTA or who ever, its no secret :D

No actually it isnt legal anywhere in QLD either. It's illegal to have them installed, even if they are not wired up, so having wiring or switch disconnected is no excuse either.

Maybe townsville is special in some way other than the obvious. Down in Brisbane you'll get about 5 minutes driving before you're grabbed for them.

Big Red was pulled over by the cops and they asked him about the lights on his roll bar. He thought he was in the sh#t but one of his lights had broken off and they weren't evenly spaced. So he had to remount them. Thats why he has 5 lights now instead of 6. :D

Mate, I drove around with roof lights on my wagon for months.

Never even got looked at sideways by cops.

If you put them on and get caught, then just take them off! Easy!

Don't drive like a d1ckhead and draw attention to yourself and you'll get away with most stuff like that!

Here is something that Mr Bracks will have to think about. What about the new Jeep(not sure what model) but it had fixed mounted SPOT LIGHTS on the roof. If sold in Vic would it not be road worthy??? I might shoot him a mail and explain his problem.
