GQ Turbos running Hot.

Post by bazzle »

A real lot has been posted re 4.2's running hot with turbos.
Also the definition of hot is not always clear - "the gauge moved"

The only cure from the 100's of posts "appears" to be 3 things.

1. If gauge goes to 3/4 Dont Worry. Nissan says this is still normal on the gauge.

2. Check therm fan coupling, they DO stop working properly.

3. Ensure rad is removed and hosed out thru all the fins esp around perimeter. One bog hole........

My G.U. was getting hot under load & the air-con was turning off. As bazzle said make sure your rad is taken out & cleaned. 75% of mine had spinafex stuck in the fins. Now no probs at all.

MY gq was heating up down the highway. i founf that the bottom radiator hose was sucking closed so i put a spring out of a falcon radiator in and a new hose problem solved.

I have an MK SWB and 4x4ing it gets quite hot - just under the redline. Changed the water / coolant and that helped a lot but it still gets too hot working hard at low speeds.
