36" tyres on GQ LWB how much lift?

I know this has probably been done before, but it isn't in the Bible, so I am ready to make another contribution.

I have a LWB GQ with 2" susp lift, 1" coil spacers, and 2" bodylift. I also have 1" shock tower spacers, and longer front shocks.

I have removed the factory flares, and fitted new 35" Kelly AWR allterrains, with minimal rubbing on the rear of the front wheel arch, when off road. the rears rubbed on the right side, inner wheel well.

I have now trimmed the front guards, almost as much as where the mudflap used to cover, and hammered the lip on the rear inner wheelwell.

I have fitted 36 x 12.5 TSL's and they don't seem to rub anywhere? except for the control arm at full lock, with compression of the suspension. (I can live with that).

Is it normal for it not to rub? I was reliably informed that 36" with 5" lift will require 1" cut from all around the guards, and chop the end off the bull bar.

if they fit OK, what do you need to do to fit wide (15") 35" tyres?

what about 37" tyres

or 38"?

I don't want to add more lift, but I want the biggest tyre practical.

What do others run?

i run a 6" lift in my GQ, bear in mind i do not have a body lift, and i can only just fit the 33's in there, i now have 35's, so the guards are gunna cop a good cutting very soon, because i can not wheel it until this happens, i may look at doing a small bodt lift in the near future, but i will be able to clear bigger tyres yet again, also, my tyres dont see, to have a problem in the front guards yet, as i havnt been able to flex it,

i had fiberglass flares, which had to be cut back on the rear to allow full flex, otherwise they would have been smashed,

just a pic to show where the tyres ends up at full flex,

Just to add to this, I ran with the swaybars still attached, and poly air bags in the rear. The bags only have enough air in them to maintain shape.

Would either of those things be restricting up travel enough so that the tyres dont rub? It seems strange when ozy1 has 6" lift and 33" tyres, and had to cut guards.

i havnt cut the guards yet, but will be next week, so that i cant run my 35's i have now, at the moments, i cant flex it with 35's

4 inch heavy duty lift with a 5 link front. and 40mm body lift.

running 36x13x16 TSL's

only needed a minor guard trim.. really tiny at the rear .. as the front was moved foward with the 5 link adjustable arms to keep the wheel centred inside the arch.

Yes that is correct - removing swaybars and the bags will allow the spring to compress even further which will see the tyre go into the wheel arch.

My Datsun.
3 inch Ridepro Coils. 79 Series Front Ridepro Shocks - same valving but no spacers required on my vehicle.
2 inch Body Lift
Adjustable Panhard Rods
15mm Packer Rear right to cater for Heavy Spare, Belly Tank.
Gaurds trimmed to 10 mm of natural body line at top and to inner panel at rear of front gaurds.

35 x 12.5 Swamper TRXUS Radials, approx 1 inch bigger than most 35 Radials.
35 x 11.5 Centipedes - Bigger agin.
Both on Toyota Offset 15 x 8's

No rub even at high speed landings

38" is not too silly, IMO. I'm sure yours will differ.

Im running 35 pedes on mine with 3 inch susp and 2 inch body, and have some rubbing on rear guards. Im going bigger soon , probably 36 pedes or tsl s . But no more lift , as the car is hi enough already, just gunna attack the guards with the grinder. shane.........

sounds like what i have done. my 35"s rubbed on the inner rear 1/4's.I hammered the sharp lip away from the tyre, and it will be OK.

I am running 35s on a 6" lift no body lift and dont want to go higher.....center of gravity etc, I want to fit 36" pedes so will chop the gaurds, looks as thought there will be no probs
