When is a 35 , not a 35 !!

Post by moose »

just got hold of some 2nd hand 35" tyres !!
2 are BFG allterrains
2 are (cough) Kumho muds !!

both pairs are 35 x 12.5 (SO THEY SAY !!!)
(@ 20psi , on the Zook !!)

the BFG measures around 34" (give or take a 1/4")
the Kumhos just make 33" (give or take a 1/4")

so how much does that suck !!

There are big size ranges for tyres (even with the same marked size). The manufacturers usually list diameter measurements for their tyres, which for most manufacturers is accurate.

Though a tyre with 15mm of tread, even if it starts at 35" dyameter will end up at just under 34" by the time it is legally bald.

I think tyre manufacture`s should be sued for false advertising because
my 35'' MTR`s are just under 34" on my patrol with 36psi in them
And about 85% tred left

The industry allows the tyre actual measurements to differ from nominal by up to 3%. If you've got a nominal 35" tyre, that 3% is 1.05 inches - so a 34" tyre meets the standards.

You could try to sue them, but I reckon you'll lose.

Cheers,

Wouldn't hurt trying to score some brand new replacements because of it ;)

I'm willing to bet the manufacture rates them completely unloaded, at the pressure of thier choice! Having just riden to work on thier treddly they'd go for say 120psi and they'd do it from behind some really thick protective screen that produces a parrellex error. Then in court they'd say " sorry your application didn't suit, here's our test data. It's up to the required standard!" I.E. your rooted!
