40 series long range tank troubles

Need advice on how to make this arrangement work. tank is from a 40 but obviously later than my '77. Is there any way to make the two nozzles meet up without cutting and welding the one on the tank around the back, pointing out horizontally. They're currently only 50mm's apart, no where near enough for any hose. Does anyone know if the filler nozzle's on later models or 45's are different, and would it match the new tank?

It's missing the flexible extension hose.

I've got the hose, but the two outlets are so close, as I said 50mm even the most flexible hose won't fit.

I now know it definately came from a 45 series... what I want to know is does the 45 series pipe come in at a different angle, which would meet up with the outlet on my tank.

45 guru's I need your help!

Need more info on where on your truck you are putting the tank?

Tank goes all the way across the cabin under the seats. Apart from the filler hose it fits perfectly.

My 40 is a '77, I'm told the floor pan changed after then, the tank went under the floor, and the seat footings changed. I'll need to have the passenger seat footing modified which is no biggy, it's the location of the filler that's the problem.

The tank pipe is simply too close to the filler pipe (and pointing up in the opposite) direction to bridge the gap with a hose.

I'm hoping a later model or 45 series filler pipe comes down in a different direction. then it's just a matter of picking one up from a wrecker.

the problem you have is that the 40 series filler enters from the side panel and the 45 series fillers enter from the corner . so the 45 series filler neck probably wont help or fit. what ever you decide to do keep in mind that fuel has to flow as unrestricted as possible or when you go to fill up the bowser will cut out from the blow back. take the tank to a pro and get it modified properly (probably only cost you a carton) Long Range tanks take ages to fill if the fuel bowser keeps cutting out!!

Thanks for the explanation... makes perfect sense. Looks like it's off to get chopped!

Can anyone in Melbourne suggest someone who could cut and weld in the inner city, South Melb., Nth Melb. etc.?

if you have dramas getting the tank modified another solution NOT IDEAL but here it goes ... i have seen a hard top 40 series with 45 series tank that used original 40 series filler neck relocated to the sliding window (of the hardtop) using longer rubber hose to join it up IE he had to slide open his side window to fuel up.. ??? are you that desperate??? any way ive added a photo of my 45 series filler neck to tank if it helps

Not that desperate, I want it done properly. I just wanted to find out if there was an y easy solution first. As soon as you said the 45 fiiler hose is around the side, i realised the tank would have to be modified. Thanks for the pic and advice. Much appreciated.
