3rds radius arms !!!

come on guys i need some help regarding these.
1.are they worth the money? by that i mean do they give much more flex than standard?
2 what sort of cost am i looking at for these?

any help appreciated thanks :lol:

According to snake and 3rds, flex will not be improved, however handling and steering response will be which will increase safety

Given the angle that they mount to the chassis, wouldn't you be safe to assume that they would give better flex than you would get with 6 inch lift and castor plates?

In saying flex, I mean down travel.

That would be correst as the chassi rubbers arnt loaded up already. So should allow all the bushes to allow as much flex as possible with out going to a 4/5link system.

do any of the aftermarket control arms come with a pivot in the arm helping with the loading up of the bushes?

As long as shocks, panhard bind, tailshaft clearance etc allow the droop.
Its not all its made out to be.

The 3rd's radius arms are hard mounted to the chassis and have a swivel/pivot point just in front of the chassis. The snake racing arms have a straight profile from the chassis forward till they drop under the axle. Unlike the factory arms that bend up forward of the chassis before they drop under the axle. so would i be right in saying that if the new arms produce a near perfect angle to the chassis with a five inch lift then with the correct shock these should produce five inches more down travel than a standard arm :?

nowhere near that much. In fact I am surprised they do much for travel at all because as Bazzle said there are other factors.

There is still a lot of bush movement available at the point that mounts a standard control arm to the chassis and I believe it is more the design of the three link that limits flex before that bush will fully bind. The arms are wanting to twist the diff like a pretzel.

Bit of a waste of $ if you are only getting em for flex. Only slight advantage they have over something like castor plates or drop boxes would be clearance.

JMO.

i would say snakes are far superior in strength to genuine arms or 3rds and 5link good for high speed work

i agree with the set up of arms i cant see how you would get anymore flex
if your passenger wheel drops into a rut the diff is trying to rotate forwards while the driver side is being pushed up it is trying to rotate backwards this is what stops the articulation
just the way i see it though

Good point they do look beefy but for the average 4wdriver standard arms are ok.

I have seen a pic of big reds bent standard arm but has many other people bent em? (genuine question btw)

If ya got the $ go for it I guess but I would spend that money in other places first then get em afterwards if needed/wanted

They seem better value for money to me than the snakes ones, far better quality!! The shocks, bushes and binding limit the degree of travel as always, If you gonna go RAMP MAD, go the five link and LOONG shocks, I'm gettin the 3rd's for touring so I will be able to give ya's feed back about em, along with the others with em... fifty million corregations will tell the tale!! :lol:
